Surprised feathers werent used to make the gills.
I love axolotls, I currently own two juvies. Have had them since they where less than an inch long and only had front feet. Now they are 4.5 inch little beasts.

I have to take my customers into consideration when I make something... Feathers wouldn't hold up well in shipping, especially the way overseas/international shipping handles packages. I prefer to build sturdier items that won't break before they get to my customers :) And some customers are allergic to stuff like that unfortunately!
