M249 SAW actually. The 240B is laying on the ground behind me.

Different applications. Carrying around the SAW is easier than the 240B. However, it isn't unheard of to man-carry the 240B, but it's mostly vehicle mounted. Most NATO forces use 5.56mm weapons, making it easier to be a joint force.

In practice, it's not very useful. It jams all the time because the issued mag springs can't keep up with the rate of fire. 30 rounds doesn't last very long in the SAW.

I'm mad I never got to play with one or will ever get to. They aren't completely getting rid of the SAW, they're supplementing it with the IAR. I ride last year they were testing drum mags for it but hadn't come up with anything good enough. There is no way it can be reasonably expected to match the SAW for putting rounds down range and suppressing fire. I'm not a Grunt so I can't really say but I do know they carry heavier machine guns than the SAW.

I just did a little more reading early after dropping that comment. Yeah, what you said, there is going to be a good number of SAWs in service still. What the IAR lacks in suppressive capabilities its making up for in accuracy, read somewhere Marines where getting a lot of first shot hits more consistently with this weapon.

A heavier gun then the SAW, a m240, I used to want to use one of those when and if ever I join the corp. But now its all about being Engineer. It's a different beast than the other branches. If you do go, go into boot expecting nothing, shut your mouth and do exactly what you're told and your life will be that much easier. If you can, try and go before summer or after so you don't have as many stupid high school retards to fuck things up in your platoon. Oh and memorize the 11 General Orders before you leave, just makes things a little easier.

M240B's are pretty sweet, but I wouldn't want to carry one around, fuck that noise.
