Random fact: Military longbow archers in the Hundred Years' War used bows with a pull of 200 pounds or more, and could achieve hits on a man sized target reliably (five times out of five) at well over a hundred yards.

Now that is impressive. That kind of accuracy was probably beyond the old archers - but not by all that much. If you know your bow, you can get some startling results.

Legend has it that the Battle of Yashima involved a spectacular feat of archery, where a member of the Minamoto managed to shoot a Taira fan off the mast of a Taira ship. It's why the battle in Evangelion is called that.
