Was watching a show called "Surviving Disaster" last night on Youtube about the 1986 nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in Ukraine. Since I was on an MLP high at the time, I decided to make a Chernobyl pony.
"Counting lives" was the term relief crews used to measure how many men they were certian would die in cleanup and containment efforts.
As a pony, Counting Lives suffers from perpetual radiation sickness and crushing depression. She speaks in a wheezing Russian accented voice perforated by a persistent, hacking dry cough. (occasionally spitting blood) Her oily black mane and tail fall out completely every once in a while, but quickly grow back.

The Russian writing below her name says "Four thousand and counting", which is the total estimated number of deaths caused by radiation so far.
Counting Lives has two sisters, Irradiated Sun and Third Mile, who represent Fukushima Daichi and Three Mile Island, respectively.
