The relationship of the Klendathu siblings with the water began at a young age, shortly after their family arrived in the Rupian Federation. When Kurfust was seven, he swam in a river for the first time. He had never seen so much water, and despite never having had an experience in the water he immediately showed great ability in swimming and diving. Some children taught him the basics of both, and Kurfust very soon was moving in the water like a fish, to the amazement of his family.
However, he was alone every time that he was in the water. There was no one to play with in his family, because no one was interested in swimming, so he soon began to teach his younger sister Dora how to swim and dive. She learned to consider water as a natural domain and in a few days was diving around her brother to tickle him by surprise. Dora began to be more and more interested in swimming and her school noticed her abilities. Being an exclusive school for girls, it could count on her to win prestigious swimming races. Dora was sent to more and more demanding races and became so good a swimmer that she was participating in races competing against those much better suited to the water, such as otters, with a good chance of winning or at least getting a decent place. Meanwhile, her brother always helped his "little sister" as a training partner, although he knew that sooner or later Dora would appear under his feet or against his stomach and tickle him like she did when they were children. He could still have some advantage if he could squeeze her nose before that happened, before Dora could do same!
