The Jaunt Chapter 4: Trapped
A bright yellow light surrounded his eyes, blinding him even as he squeezed them shut; a light breeze ran across his bare chest as he realized he was on his back. Soft sticks of something poked at his back, trying to coax his body to move. Keeping his eyes shut he rose to his feet, a blinding light filled his shut vision. He slowly opened them, at first all he could see was a bright yellow light, but as his eyes adjusted he started to see the beauty of the world around him. He found himself naked on a large grassy hill; a sprawling meadow stood before him, flowers and grasses as far as the eye could see. Chris looked towards the sky, it was the bright blue of midday, blinking in surprise he wiggled his feet in the grass. The grass felt great along his toes, creeping in and brushing against areas long un-touched. Without another though Chris dashed through the meadow, running as fast as he could, he felt like he had unlimited energy. The grass whipped across him as he headed out in full sprint across the field, the flowers providing a split second of joy which each pass, growing and growing as more passed by him.
He must of ran like this for what must have been hours, his legs never growing tired and his body never wearing down. He stopped to glow in his victory of newfound limitless powers or energy. He looked down and saw that he was naked, thinking back on it the wind had felt particularly good while running, guess he knew why now. Without any warning Chris heard a sound, a voice, couldn’t tell what it was, just that it was a voice. Chris started walking to the sound almost unconsciously; one foot just seemed to follow the other on its own. He heard it again, defiantly male, it was yelling but not screaming, loud but not desperate. Chris turned towards it now truly curious to what it was, the voice didn’t seem right somehow. He heard it again and this time he could tell it defiantly wasn’t natural, it seemed digitized, but with emotion.
Now Chris could barely make out words, “something with a b…beast? No not beast, there it was again! Beth? Is this person looking for someone?” Chris thought to himself, truly confused now, “No…no now it seemed like a sentence, b…something, some mumbled words and now something like ‘There’. There! It was starting over again! Breed? No BREATHE! It was breathe!”
Chris began to run now, trying to find the source of the voice, it sounded like it was coming out of a speaker somewhere, “Ok now I can hear the rest! Breathe…Breathe in the….Bear…no Air, breathe in the air? Why does that sound familiar?”
Unable to contain himself anymore he burst into full sprint trying to find the source, he began to make more and more sense of it, he could hear some kind of guitar in the background. The notes hit his heart like a sledgehammer, it seemed whenever the guy spoke it would just loop back to this dreamy guitar sequence, but why where was he anyways? How did he get here? Didn’t something happen to him? Breaking these thoughts Chris came out into the edge of the forest, on the very side of it there was a path leading into the forest, leading to the sound, and hopefully to the answers. He slowed down and walked down the path, noting how he hadn’t seen a single bird, bug, mammal, rodent, or even a simple cloud. He looked up and saw how strange things really are.
The sun had already bled into the sky, turning it a deep orange, it was beginning its final breaths of daylight, but it was falling to be extinguished so it may rise again. The stars were beginning to shine already, Chris ran quickly down the path as more and more of the message began to play.
“Don’t be afraid to care? What the fuck does that mean?!?” Chris thought as his naked body became cold and for the first time he began to become afraid. He felt chills and for whatever reason his wrists hurt…a lot. His limitless energy seemed to die down a ton, he felt like he had been hit with a bag of bricks. He found the end of the path, and was horrified by what he saw.
A giant wall of water stood before him, held back by nothing and at least fifty feet high, it ran from one side to the next, not seeming to end. Chris sheepishly went up to the wall and poked the field that kept it back…bad idea. A giant ripple spread throughout the wall, shifting and moving the water behind it, and with an tremendous *pop* the barrier broke. The wall of water rushed down and smothered him, choking the life out of him and forcing down the chair as he woke up in a cloud of cigarette smoke.
“Welcome back Asswipe!”
