Now here's something different. :)
I took a break from my current work in progress to play around with Sculptris a bit. It's like a limited version of zbrush, and it's free to download. http://www.pixologic.com/sculptris/
I haven't really done anything 3D before, and it was fun to play around with, so I made a dragon. :D
Now, perhaps I'll see if I can get this printed up some time. That would be neat.
Sculptris slowed down drastically on me when I tried to texture the model, and I didn't want to spend too long on it, so I simply drew the eyes in using Photoshop. Also, it would be fun to turn this into one of those rotatable flash things.
If any of you have done that before, what software do you use to build those?
Edit: Eyes updated! Huzzah!

After Effects for a simple turntable and Flash for an interactive turntable. I'm not sure if Sculptris can export video files, but Zbrush itself can. Otherwise you'll need to render out 360 view separately and throw them into After Effects.
Very good for a first attempt. I think if you practice more often you'll become great at 3D modeling also.

Ah, After Effects and Flash.
I have an old version of Flash, though. I didn't see any way to import obj files, or anything 3D for that matter. Maybe I'll take another look in there...
And, as far as I know, Sculptris can't export video files either.
I have used Photoshop for simple animations before, but I thought using screen shots for every frame would be rather tedious and choppy, in comparison to an actual solution.
Thanks for the tips!

Thank you very much.
I've actually changed them since the initial upload. A few people pointed out that the cartoony eyes didn't match the model, so I replaced them with something closer to a blue version of Rattlesnake Jake's eyes, in Rango.
Rattlesnake Jake had impressive eyes.
I think these ones look a bit more interesting.

VERY.... buuut...http://www.graphicall.org/ download one of the builds that fits your system ;), is always updated with nightly builds, and the interface varies, though i find the new releases better, and less confusing
Thank you.
I'll send you a note about it, then.
I've looked at a few sites that can do that sort of thing, but the file format they need varies, and prices seem to be all over the place...
Since I've worked with other forms of digital art before, but never 3D, I am rather uninformed in this area. I am interested in learning more about it, and it might be fun.
Perhaps I'll be able to make a few sculptures or miniatures someday.

Awesome. I'm a 3D artist too since I got into Blender, although I don't make my own models yet (I still do animations and stuff). It can be very fun and look quite amazing when it's well done like here ^_^
Just curious... how long did it take to render? It looks very high-poly.

Neat.
I looked at Blender once, a while back, but I only used it for file conversion.
I just took some screenshots of the program, and stitched them together in Photoshop, so I didn't fully render the model at all.
There are around 600,000 triangles in that model, but it could probably be simplified. Bump mapping should be able to reduce that number substantially, as well.

Nice. Yeah, bump mapping always helps in such cases (especially if it's parallax mapping).
As for Blender, it's a lot better since version 2.5 (which added a new interface) and I'm totally in love with it ^^ I do recommend trying it again sometime. I made whole animations only with it and am still surprised what awesome things it can do.
