So 
que-sera-sera is having this contest, see, and the prize is a fursuit of the character belonging to the person who wins it. Here's the info on it, though the deadline is May 31st at midnight: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3204232/ I only found out about it the day before yesterday, so I've been scratching away at this sloppy ref in the time I can spare from packing and working on other projects. He looks freakin' cool...
I've been wanting to make Grayver for ages, but never put a ref together until now, and I frankly just don't have the time right now to build him myself.
But, here he is! A crazy mix of Stellar's Jay, Secretary Bird, Archeopteryx, xiaotingia zhengi (another dino-bird of supreme coolness), some colour ideas from the Himalayan Monal (though I left out the orange and yellows on purpose- too many colours) and a bit of Pallas' Cat for his wide, fuzzy face with the "I'm gonna feckin' KILL somethin'" stare.
Don't get him wrong, Grayver is really a huge, absolute suck.
Grayver is copyright to me, as is the art.

Yup. I like loony colour-combos... If I do end up making this suit myself, the "feathers" are going to be iridescent, like in the image- I know a way to do it using opalescent paints in various colours. The effect is freakin' awesome. I have a partially-finished Magpie tail I was going to have in FC's Art-show that didn't get finished in time that I tried that effect on, and it worked awesomely. I figure I'll have it in next year's show. >^___^<
LOL Indeed! I don't think I've seen anyone use an Archeopteryx or a Xiaotingia zhengi as an inspiration for a suit before... *having said that, goes and puts that into the search function to see what she gets*
Let's see: exactly ONE fursuit- a straight Archie, no weird hybridizing like I did: unknown maker and wearer, unfortunately. He's cute, though: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6006991/ Only 195 mentions in 130 images, though- quite a few nice anthros, too.
No fursuits, and only three (total) mentions of the species, including mine. One guy has a copy (pixelated) of an image I actually used for reference- he didn't paint it, but I'm not sure if he's claiming to: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6206564/
I finally got onto something different... YAY!
