This is my pet Brachypelma smithi named "Sanchez" :D
I've got him/her last week and he/she is just super awesome. He/she's a fierce hunter and a real beauty! Sanchez is actually pretty gentle, but when he/she detects prey, he/she becomes really wild! Sanchez can be fast as lightning.

It varies by genus, new world terrestrials tend to have very mild venom but they have urticating hairs which cause intense itching, old world tarantulas don't have urticating hairs but they compensate with potent venom. The most potent tarantula bite is unlikely to kill you but make you wish you were dead, if you're curious look up Poecilotheria bite reports. It's a fun read.
Yup, no sexual dimorphism until maturity. The most reliable method is waiting for the spider to moult and looking between the first set of book lungs on the inside, looking for spermathecae, little pouches that have species specific shapes where the sperm is stored after mating.
