This has been a departure for me technologically, because while I am moderately proficient at carving, it's usually a subtractive process--I remove material, leaving the sculpture behind. In this case, I'm adding material, building it up until it is in the form I wish it to be. Conceptually and mechanically, it's a very different approach.
