I usually don't bother with the 2player option on Super Mario Bros- For such a classic game, it IS kinda tacked on, and lets face it. NOBODY really wants to play Luigi. Not even Luigi!
But, I guess if your friend runs the risk of turning into a massive Tanuki-Girl when you rack up points in SMB3... it really doesn't hurt to help 'em out. ^///^

Heh, so you were the one who ended up playing Luigi and you didn't have the change happening to you judging by that hat... so then is that a double-lose scenario for you or an "at least I didn't get changed" one?
Besides, Mario is overrated, at least Luigi has a personality trait.

I don't think that it was implied that the transformation was brought out from either player "losing" but rather the opposite.
As for him getting changed, we'll have to keep playing and see <-<
and really, I don't think Mario is overrated, I just think that he gets too much publicity. Nowadays you have to sort of see him as this icon of nintendo that they exploit for everything. back when it was just the NES and SNES, he was an iconic character, and when N64 came out, it made him feel more "epic" being the star of his first 3D game...
but regardless, Luigi definately does have a personality trait, and he's still awesome. x3;
