As we returned home a few weekends ago from Murphys, CA I stopped at a scenic outlook.
Here we see the flat central valley, it's actually quite flat, much like Iowa which is probably why I like driving through it. (I've not driven in Iowa for probably two decades.)

flat just seems wrong to me. having grown up in the sierras above 2000 foot elevation, mostly in small towns of less then 1000 people. i belong up in my hills. at least above 1000 feet elevation.
view is typical from near that one thousand foot, looking down into the valley. one i've seen many wonderful times. computer stores and train stores of valley and bay area cities are wonderful, but this valley air is killing me.
