Recently I have become completely enamored of one of the oddest and most fun superheroes of the Marvel continuity; the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Squirrel Girl! With her rodent-like agility, knuckle spikes, fluffy prehensile tail, ability to speak squirrel-ese, lips that taste like hazelnuts, loyal sidekick Tippy-Toes and her ever-present nut sacks, she's got all the pep, spunk and adorableness she needs to whoop even the mightiest of supervillains! Need I even mention the Squirrel-a-gig?
I like her not just for being cute, but because she's sweet, helpful, optimistic and modest. A refreshing change from most superheroes nowadays who are either barely-clothed Barbie dolls or brooding emo psychopaths. As she eloquently states in GLA Misassembled #2: "I'm not crazy about super hero stories where everything's all dark and moody. Personally, I like the ones where good guys fight giant apes on the moon and stuff. Remember those? I do. That was back when comic book worlds were places you wanted to escape to. ...Not from." Much as I love The Dark Knight Returns and Kingdom Come, you gotta admit they kinda fudged up the entire comics industry forever...
As far as the drawing goes, not bad for my first human, eh? I tell ya, there were many, many, many erasures involved. Especially around her face. On the other hand, Tippy-Toes came out just how I wanted within minutes. Ya never can tell.

Thanks! This was based off Paul Pelletier's art from the GLA: Misassembled mini-series. He and Dan Slott are responsible for ressurecting her (after over a decade of obscurity!). So, we have them to thank for transforming her into the spunky, adorable cult star she is today.
tobor is a huge Squirrel Girl fan. xD He'd love this. That aside, you did a great job, dudester! I'm really impressed with the face and the way you handled the fur. That little squirrel is cute, too!
I shall go seek out Tobor and hopefully make him a happy pup.
big huge thanks, too. The face was the number one area I was afraid I'd screw up. Amazingly though, this is about the first time I can think of where the inking came out better than my original sketch. Also, I'd heard human noses are supposed to be notoriously difficult, yet hers was almost the easiest part of the whole drawing! Two lines; done. Hooray!

he best thing is you look at marvel's official power rankings for characters and she has maxed stats in everything. She is the Marvel embodiment of over 9000 and is actually in the canon rankings the most powerful being in the marvel universe. "Word of God" states that during world war hulk she was off in space fighting Galactus. She beat Doom twice and one of the times it was with a zergling rush. her badass boast once was "I don't need luck; I eat nuts"
She id acknowledged as so powerful because she is a silver age character living in the deconstruction period of comics. Meaning she is on par or possibly more powerful than Pre-Crisis Superman.
She is so genre aware that she knows she is a silver age character in a Deconstruction world and as mentioned earlier Liked silver age stories and doesn't like deconstruction era stories. not only is she that genre aware but she is contractually obligated by marvel not to break the 4th wall other than in letters pages and recaps and previews. though her squirrel friends have no Obligation to that so as a result they are blatant portable 4th wall Breech charges.
Best to of all though she is literially nuttier than any other character ever she even is more cracked that Deadpool. who is genre aware enough that he has seen her stats and has While he fought Daredevil, he warned him about the walking nukes such as the Iron Mans, the Thors, and the Squirrel Girls. And then he fought Cable, he warned him about the psychos such as himself, Dr. Doom and Squirrel Girl.
so yea SG is epic win.

I knew some of that, but still a welcome wall of info! I think the essence of squirrel girl is contained in her quote, "That was back when comic book worlds were places you wanted to escape to ...not from." She's basically the goddess of fun.

yea actuially that quote you are referring to refers to her canon status as a member of the silver age of comics that fantasy age people woudl love to run away to" rather than the modern deconstruction age the "not from".
