Connor and Deirdre. They were lovers, once, when the world was young and they were just children, too innocent and self-absorbed to see what the future held. They held on to each other through fourteen years of brutal warfare and the birth of their daughter, only to be torn away from each other by duty and tradition.
Now, they are the leaders of their little part of the world, one a king, the other the most influential General in a dozen generations. After an all too brief peace they've found themselves at war again, this time against each other, though neither of them would have it that way. In the normal course of events, it wouldn't be so bad. War is only the national sport, after all. Except, this time, it isn't just a game. This time, in their pride and their blind adherence to tradition, they might have destroyed the world as they know it and their only daughter as well.

It's a wonderful picture. Corgii really outdid herself with this, and I just love it to bits! Aw, but thanks. I'm glad you think the little story snippet I put together helps it out. Of course you've read the book, so you know things do get fixed, after a fashion. But I love how well Corgii was able to capture the feel of this particular moment and the worry and fear that these two felt then. As I said to her, I really think this is the one picture of Connor and Deirdre that has really managed to not only capture the mood I wanted, but to come as close as anyone else is able to showing exactly what it was I had in mind for them at this moment in time.
All that, and you can really see how much Deirdre looks like her daughter when you lengthen her hair a bit and put the same clothes on her. Which only makes this picture more awesome, if you ask me.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. Corgii has always been one of my favorite artists and I'm absolutely in love with what she's done here. She captured the mood and the look I wanted so perfectly, and as I said to her I think this is the closest anyone has come to reaching into my head and recreating what I had imagined. I've been wanting to get this scene done for a ridiculously long time now, too, so I'm quite happy to have it.
I've been a long time watcher of Corgii, and I'm sad I was away for so long that I missed this piece being uploaded.
The emotion in it is very strong, and the look of reluctance and want is so bittersweet and captured so strongly.
While the piece is sad, I do have to comment to say I adore the shirt Deirdre is wearing, and her sandals, too! They're adorable.
I also really love the shading on this piece. Everything looks beautiful and silky.

I'm a long time fan of her work, too. Corgii is one of my all time favorite artists here on FA, and she always does such a fantastic job with the pictures I ask her to draw. She really took my breath away with this one, too. I don't think anyone has managed to capture the essence of both of these characters nearly as well as she has here, and it's one of those rare pictures where what the artist has put on the page matches what I had in my imagination almost perfectly.
I really like the outfits Corgii designed for this picture, too. Deirdre's is actually based off of the outfit that Ciara (her daughter) normally wears, so I had a bit of a reference for that, but Corgii designed Connor's clothes from scratch. I'm very fond of those sandals, and more than a little tempted to steal the design for future pictures, too!
