So on Saturday, Steph took me to Gyeongbokgung Palace. And holy crap, it was breathtaking. When I was told about a palace, I picture your standard oriental walls, with like one big building. Well, they had that. And through that big building was another set of walls, and a bigger building. And through THAT bigger building was another set of walls and a BIGGER building, and more walls and literal DISTRICTS branching off on either side. It was mind-blowing! We spent 6 hours wandering around and exploring every part, and it was exhausting, but so rewarding! I put together a series of collages, but if you want the high-res pictures, with a few I left out, here's a link: http://sdrv.ms/K9hjU5 <--- It's over 200 megs :P
This is the first part in a series I'll be uploading. This is the main courtyard, and a fur pictures of guards that were standing at the main gate. Poor guys couldn't get paid enough for that, but there was a "changing of the guard" while we were there, so it fortunately isn't ALL day.
I really liked those dragon mouths over the gate, presumably to pour burning oil down onto invaders. So cool.
That mosaic-type thing was the roof of the main gate. Quite ornate~!
