Beautiful style on this! Wonderful color scheme and love the combination of tight details in the fair with broad, splotchy color for the vases and the fruit. This totally pulls your eye right to that big goofy grin.

I'm loving the texture on these, btw. Are those just the standard dry media and inking brushes, or are you rocking a custom set?

It's all using the chalk buildup custom brush. I am too lazy to employ more than one brush when I work haha.

So do the lines have the same scraggly quality as the areas of chalky fluff, but they're just too small to show it, then?

You can do a lot adjusting pressure and also spacing of the brush. If you set the spacing to be the most dense it can be you will basically have a default hard edge, lowering density gives you a semi dry brush/sponge effect. I've also flatted the diameter into more of a chisel brush for painting. I think that eventually I'll get my own custom set because the work will definitely look better when you do.

Ahh, makes sense. But I don't think you get to call yourself lazy at the point you're adjusting spacing and brush tip diameter

I've got maybe four or five custom brushes I use for everything at this point, and it's definitely a big help. That said, most of my actual painting I do with one brush. Then I've got a couple for shading or adding a bit of texture or painting flats/masks and other special use cases.

I love how it's both flat and has volume at the same time. It's both highly stylish and easy to 'read' as well.

I was totally going for a volumetric look with flat accents!, glad you noticed. Also, yea I always desaturate the entire picture to see if the values are working so that it remains readable.
