For a while I was an owner/administrator of a simple browser based online game called KingSword Online. The game failed epically lol but it was a good experience.
Although we were never able to follow through with the project, I spent a lot of time tailoring this to set up events that would occur during a special separate server game.
There are six main characters represented, and the idea was that players could decide to choose either side of the conflict, and which character they served under, giving them unique advantages over other players. Additionally, whichever side won the conflict would have a significant impact on the cannon history of Camlyn, the land the game took place in.
During their meeting, Anastia was hit with a mysterious cloud of gas from Sultan Ekhi. As the week progressed, players would see the queen becoming more and more mentally and emotionally unstable. Although The Sultan clearly came as an invader, the line starts to become blurred as to just who is right in the conflict. Hasting, though he can see what is happening to his queen remains unflinchingly loyal to the crown, even when her orders become irrational. She makes advances on Willem, who is seduced by the fortune teller Ghaniya and switches sides. At the same time Anwar Rashid becomes disgusted with the under handed tactics his own army is using to win, and switches sides after an epic battle with Hasting. This was to provide twists to the players supporting either side. Anastia is driven into an emotional rage over Alec's betrayal, and this leads to the final confrontation between their two armies. Unfortunately we never finished the game so it remains undecided who won! >< maybe I'll have to convert it to a stand alone short story and finish it myself.
