Three reasons:
1. Sharks are awesome.
2. I wanted to do something not seen that often.
3. Sharks are AWESOME!
I sorta played around with the idea of the ocean being a collective consciousness in this, and it's that conscious that is calling him to give back that piece of the ocean he took.
