Oh, Luther. Take me away. . . .
*sigh* He's a lot less dashing when you know what kind of a man he is. Come volume 2, I think people are going to feel betrayed :P
Only one page to go! I love how the end of this volume is going to coincide with Anthrocon this year.
Speaking of which! If you're going to AC this year, stop by Sofawolf's table. They'll have copies of Red Lantern for sale, of course, and Red Lantern: Conviction posters. I hear they're pretty swanky :)
Red Lantern Volume 1 is now available for purchase! It covers all 95 pages, including those never before posted online! Check it out here:

It's worth mentioning at this point that all the pages posted from here to page 95 were completed over *six months ago*, and the book has already gone to print. So while you're certainly welcome to make artistic suggestions, we are well past the point where we are able to make any changes. Critique my current artwork if you'd like to be productive. Thank you.

Dunno if anyone else pointed this out, but I think he's missing his collar on his shirt in the 4th panel. It's there in the first, not in the forth. Anyway, I'm liking Luther hehe. But from what you said, and knowing how these types of stories go, I'm not sure I will for much longer.
Amon has spent the whole story time and time again doing random kind things for others. Even from the start he gave his throw away to keep someone else from being cold. And there after I think everyone pretty much remembers his others. Point is he always doing thjngs for others but not once have I seen anyone do anything speical for Amon. This page changed it. It's not much but it was good to see a kinda random act of kindness come Amon's way. He deserves so much more...
This page and the next had to be my favorite's of the book.

"Come volume 2, I think people are going to feel betrayed :P" Aargh! You and your foreshadowing, already!
Seriously, though, this has been one of the very best comics/graphic novels I've seen since... ever. You have done marvelous work, and though I'm saddened to hear Alectorfencer will not be with the series into the next chapter I'm excited to see what myenia has to offer.
And I, too, will be looking forward to a hardcover edition of Red Lantern. The work you both put into this just begs for it.

Any idea as to when Volume II will be published or even when you'll start putting it up on here? With the next submission of this story volume I willl end and that means that both your stories will have come to an end, I don't know how I'll cope without stories to read from you...
Say, the Amurescans aren't the "bad guys", but they're no "heroes" either, from what I could gather. They were trying to impose their culture on the lizard people back there, attempting to colonize their lands. Luther's an Admiral, that's a pretty darn big rank...a rank which I assume would require some degree of ruthlessness... It wouldn't surprise me if Luther had commited his fair share of atrocities in the past, during some of his missions...
Actually, no, I think that when you reveal what kind of man Luther is, I shan't be the least bit surprised. That scene from a while back with the dragon-looking fellows attacking his ship gave me the distinct impression that Luther wasn't the virtuous party in that conflict. And there's just... something... about him... that's just not quite... square. Massive kudos for pulling that off, by the way; subtly of that type isn't an easy thing.
hmmmm betrayal huh... the possibilities behind that, many ways it could be done, but I wonder tho, even tho we may feel betrayed did luther really have a choice in that even, suppose we will find out later, loving the comics, I just gotta find a copy that ships to australia -_- so far not luck there. Look forward to the thrilling drama you got in store.
I think we already got a bit of a glimpse to what kind of a person Luther is during the fight against the lizard folk... He's a stone-cold killer! I'm also guessing we'll be finding out why the scalies referred to him as "the defiler" (I think that was the term they used... too lazy to check).
I dunno... as an owner of cattle dogs, I'm pretty sure nothing Luther ever does could surprise me. He could pull some complete dick move and all I would think in response would be "Well, he IS a cattle dog..." and then he could suddenly go back to being all dashing and sweet and I would be "There's a cattle dog for you." My years of experience with heelers is that there is no other creature on earth with a greater capacity for empathy, love, loyalty, and bravery... but that is counterbalanced by the cattle dog's tendency to just... totally out of the blue and with no provocation, be a total dick.
My working theory is that cattle dogs MUST be arrogant assholes at random inappropriate moments because if they don't, all the wonderful things about the breed will cause them to implode.

The level of stupid I cannot comprehend...
He has spent his life being a whore - there is no "love" involved, just a fuck machine. He doesn't realise what it means to have love and be loved, until Luther showed him affection and a caring nature.
Even if Amon was actually in love with Luther, I doubt his mistress/owner would be very pleased if he slowed or even stopped doing his job of "satisfying the needs of clients" - she would have to sell him or disown him (therefore no job! and it's apparant that decent jobs are hard to come by if you have background as a slave [especially a sex slave]).

Doesn't seem like so many years have already passed since I seen this first posted. But even after the time that's passed I still love this page. The first time Luther showed Amon affection, clearly something he doesn't get much of and even though it was so simple as a touch on the cheek the heartfelt meaning of it showed. And the general generosity of Luther here. Sure he could afford it, but it shows he does care about Amon and that's what I've always enjoyed the most. Now I just hope to hear Luther tell Amon that he loves him in the future. :)
