What about using a move or shift or expand tool instead.. maybe try to shift it a little instead of smoothing out the grain?

PhotoShop Elements isn't as sophisticated as the full blown program. No shift or expand tool available in PSE. Actually, there's an ulterior motive here. I'm using PSE as a way of getting used to Photoshop conventions. I was never real happy with how they did things ("Layers" instead of the more simple concept of "Objects"), but I'm eventually going to need to convert over simply because I've taken my old PhotoImpact about as far as it's going to go. PI seems to be heading off in a different direction from its simpler graphics program origins (More Web Whiz Bang stuff than drawing) so I need to get used to the inevitable juggernaut that is PhotoShop. :P

You know.. GIMP has just such a tool....</Shameless Plug>
