I only got one commission during this year's What the Fur, so the rest of the time I spent in Artist's Alley, I diddled around with "me for me" pics. This is one of them, depicting Tanya in a school uniform. She's not really a student, it's just the look (School Uniforms are the New Black). I think she's looking a little nervous because the last time she was drawn in an outfit like this, it was making a reference to a hentai manga :D
This time around, I was making a reference to the fact that a lot of manga artists can render their figures and clothing completely correctly right till they get to the character's feet, then completely screw up the shoes. I went the extra mile (kilometer? y'know I was in Canada when I drew this..) and put her in a fairly generic (but accurate-looking) pair of penny loafers.
Other than that. nothing groundbreaking here. I made the pencils into vectors using Inkscape, then added a simple backdrop in my usual image application once I threw down some flat colors. Because I have a hard time letting a pic go without a backdrop. There are a couple of other pics I did during my stint in WTF's 'alley, and those will be posted as I have time to quickie them up.
Dual-layer image (backdrop/character), pencils on bristol inked in Inkscape, colored in Micrografx Picture Publisher 10. 19MB at full uncompressed size.

According to this article on TVTtropes, it's definitely fetishized, but I'm not aware of any specific schoolwear trends in RL beyond oversized baggy socks (which for all I know, may have already gone out of style). It might not be explicitly off limits at some schools. I'm pretty sure I've seen it stateside, though I won't swear to it.
Tanya looks very nice and lovely in her school outfit, man! :D
Speaking of which, I was wondering if you could draw a picture of Tina in the same school outfit that she wore in the comic story "A Curiously Filthy Story", except she would be taking off her shoes and kinda showing off her white socks? :)
