For ponies in the MLP universe really, they do have their own races but it’s more like unicorns, pegasi, alicorns, and earth ponies. And I’m not sure ponies really dictate what they are depending on their hair or color. There could be places outside of the mlp world, but I’d guess that not many Equestrians really think to venture outside of their country. Who knows?
