Watts Martin's Revar once again, a splash page from the second story of the trilogy, 'The Lighthouse'. At the time I did this I was quite pleased with it. Looking at it now makes the veins in my forehead twitch. So many things wrong. The ships in the background are monsters indeed, and there are perspective issues beyond counting. Most of all, unlike the other pieces in this series, I really feel this one is too pale, too lacking in contrast between the hard ink-edges and the graphite 'paint'. I need to find a decent scan of the 'On The Rocks' cover page. This was done using powdered graphite stirred into alcohol, then painted gently on and smudged around with a brush. A lot of detail is lost (the feathering where the pale ventral fur on her cheek meets the darker tone of her facial fur particularly strikes me as being cruelly abused by the scanner) but I should have made it higher contrast to begin with. If I were to do it all over again, I'd probably layer about another half-cup of graphite on this to bring up the contrast and enhance the range of fades from light into shadow. It was an experiment, but then everything was...
And yet...And yet. I still like this piece enough to post it. Go figure.

Oh, no, no, no. I do mean rework. I mean a NEW pic of 'em. ^^
But, yeah. I know how you feel about the art stress thingy. I myself am having trouble getting a drawn story out, (it took me six months to do the last five drawings >/
Still, you should really at least try and eek something out once in awhile. You're very good (I especially like that Vixen looking in the mirror.). Besides, with the Revar stuff, you're pretty much a celebrity!
Trilogy.... there's a third one?!

I'm glad you like it. Did you see the companion piece? http://furaffinity.net/view/58490/
I did the whole set of illustrations for the story with the major illustrations done using black and white gouache and fine-powdered graphite suspended in alcohol that I 'painted' on then smudged around with the brush.

Thats really a fantastic pic and I wish I could draw that well with graphite..if I could draw with it at all that is. :P The scenery is very interesting and theres an interesting contrast between the lighter drawn humans and the more shaded bat. Who looks very thoughtful, even sad from what I feel. I also love the detail work you put into this pic.
I am also an old fogey in furry fandom, though not quite as long as you have. I first saw your art in YARF, yet was in fandom just in time to see you fade away. I always felt kinda sad about that. :(
We have met, once. We chatted briefly in a Further Confusion art show; I believe we were both bidding on the same piece. I hope I didn't go too fanboy on you.
I do have photocopies of your art from the Revar stories. While they're hoth high quality, I can scan them in at a higher resolution if you would like.

Hmmmm. Now I have to wonder what art piece that would have been. I never had many people go 'fanboy' on me, probably because I never drew much pornography back then, so didn't attract that crowd.
If you would not mind trying to scan them in, I would appreciate it. I have no record at all of some of them.
I'm happy you enjoy/enjoyed my work.
