I had actually finished this piece and posted it on my dA account several months ago, but it only just clicked that I never posted it here... ^^;
Oh well, better late than never. XD
Major catharsis in doing this image.
This is the third in my "Phase states" series of images, the first two being:
phase states for
hypomanic phase/plasma state: http://www.furaffinity.net/full/6363896/ and
dysphoric mania phase/solid state http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7187010/
This is the "depressive" phase of multipolarity; low mood and energy, much like clinical depression.
The state of matter I associate with it is liquid- the state of acids and bases.
Liquids destroy. They seep into every available crack or crevice, dissolving and corroding everything they touch. So it is with clinical depression- it seeps into your soul, and poisons everything. It corrupts everything good in your life; you feel alone and isolated- and that you deserve to be. It feeds off of your doubts and fears, and whispers that surrender is the easiest way out. The only way to survive depression is to armor yourself against your own toxic emotions. But even the strongest steel or mightiest mountain can be eroded away with time. Those with bipolarity or multipolarity have it especially hard- memories of the manic phase mock you in the distance.
Liquid does have another side, however.
Liquid purifies and reshapes.
The same acid that destroys can clean and etch metal.
Caustic lye can strip impurities and stains.
The actions of erosion can form wonders like the grand canyon.
And in the heart of depression one is forced to look at ones own shadowy reflection, and stare down the monster that is there. And, just maybe, get a little closer to controlling it.
Photoshop, about 20 hours.
