Prismacolor pencils. Bajillions of them. Magazine cover commissioned for issue one of 'The Otter Limits'. I went hog-wild on this, pulling out my adoration for the old, OLD Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon era streamline science fiction. Then I lost myself for long hours working on that starry sky, and had to seriously rush the foreground. The poor hyenas in Romanesque armor with laserguns in the lower left shrunk to a third their number and were horribly undetailed. The moonscape was reduced to a series of (I hoped would be read as) radiating blast shadows, and I ended up filling more of the picture than I had originally intended to with the explosion and magma (mmmmmmagma). Most disappointing, at this size, the transparent purplish smoke from the burning futurist city just looks like a purple blob or mountain, and the tiny spinning planet beneath the vixen's clutching hand is almost lost in the purple of her cloak. I think I just tried to cram too much crap into too little time and space. Ming-the-Merciless-ish vixens, a skunk princess, a bare-chested otter hero, rockets with swept fins, alien cities, threatened planets, explosions, lasers, galactic starscapes and alien landscapes and leave us not forget the Edsel logo on the rocketcycle...
But you know something? I had fun. I really enjoyed this. It was probably the only thing I did in the last of my really creative years in the early 90s where I really was enjoying myself doing the art.
You just KNOW I was listening to Queen's soundtrack the whole time, don'cha?

The original was purchased by the publisher of the magazine, but yeah, it was a better 'wall piece' than a lot of things I see out there.
Honestly, how many people have a picture of foxes fucking on their living room wall? NOT MANY. Something like this, though...Glad you liked it. :)

Considering what I've seen inside some fan's homes, a picture of foxes f***ing would look downright tame. :shiver: I'm glad I met some of the more 'normal' folks (mostly artists and writers) when I first started getting involved with furry fandom, else I'd have slagged it all off as a bunch of freaks.

Yah, it makes my fingers cramp up, too. XD
I wish I could muster that kind of patience today. Every time I sit down to draw, I get frustrated because it doesn't look as good as when I was drawing more, and so I can't finish it, and I don't draw...And that kind of bites its own tail.

Stunning. Viewing it while listening to Queen makes it even better. :P It's too bad there's no higher-rez version, I'd especially love to see the lighting effects on the moonscape more clearly. All your hours of hard work really paid off, it really says "labour of love" to me. EXCELLENT work. :)
It should go well with Queen, it was drawn with Queen. :D
Yeah, I really need to find a print and scan it. If anyone reads this and has a print, and a scanner...
Thank you, yes, it really was one of the few things I did (that and Em) that I really enjoyed, and I think it shows on both of them.
