Was the 300 SE you had one of the old W112?. I have been looking for a mid 1960's coupe. The design is one of the most elegant Mercedes very produced.

Awesome... I have a 2003 Ford Expedition that just hit 205,000 and runs like the day I purchased it new.

I bought my van for $300 in a yard sale with 198K over 4 years ago. Since then, it's been to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Memphis, Orlando, Jacksonville, Atlanta. Only problems ever were the original alternator locking up at 218K on my way to AC09 and May 2011 when coming back from Tilt Longtail's place with a 390 V8 and transmission in the back, the ignition control module in the distributor died.

So, the top speed is 85mph? o_O

Its a USA spec car and all Mercedes sold in the US during that era had the 85 MPH speedo.

It was a summer/winter resort car for many years living in both Wolfeboro, NH and Palm Springs, CA, so it was only used about 2,000 a year.

Hehe... I love analog gauges. They have so much more personality then a digital format.

I completely agree! I dislike how digital insturments dont count up properly if you accelerate too fast. By far my favorite analog gauge style is that of the later series Lancia Gamma.

If I'm not mistaken, 81 is the only year MB used the 85 MPH speedo in the w107.
