I drew this to mark something that happened recently that caught me by suprise.
A windy storm had smashed into the mountans where i live, the many plants in full bloom were suddenly battered by wind and rain, the delicate blossoms, the thousands upon thousands of flowers that grew here were ripped from there stalks, leaves torn from branches, branches torn from trees. The next morning i overlooked the damage, the one thing i noticed was all of our many flowers that just yesterday grew wild and vivid, were gone. I shrugged, that was the way it went, flowers were temparary at best, they always went away eventually. It was then that i turned around and there, in the twisted branches of the liquid amber tree that grows outside my home were a small group of Hummingbirds. they were just sitting there, looking around, lost it seems. I looked around as well, not a flower in sight. I recalled some fact i had read somwhere that there was a very short period of time that a humming bird could go without food, a few days at most...
With a sigh i went down to the big basement and climbed around, looking for that old blown glass humming bird feeder. i finally found it, cleaned it out and filled it with sugar water. I went up the liquid amber tree, getting all sticky in the prossess. I hung the feeder up in the branches of that grim looking tree and left it at that. Good deed done and all that.
It only took a day for the hummingbirds to find it if that. It was after the next day or so that i started to notice that wherever i went near my place and the tree soon enough a hummingbird would show up and buzz by my head, they seemed to follow me everywhere, always chirping and high on way to much sugar as they tend to be... I had no idea what they were up to or why they wanted to drop by and say hi all the time. But then one day i was working outside and all of a sudden i heard the deep thrum of a hummingbird, i didnt pay any attention, atleast until the tiny delicate bird landed on my head. I lifted my head, trying foolishly to get a look at this sudden hitchhiker, The tiny bird jumped off and hovered nearby. I turned to look at the little sugar overdosed featherball and raised an eyebrow. "What in the name of all the dark and terrible things that live under my bed do you want?" i asked in amazement. The tiny bird, undaunted by my grim visage chirped and flew back to my home and landed in the arms of the liquid amber tree, looking at me in askance, chirping for my attention. Well, i had to find out what this was all about hadn't I? so i made my way to the tree and looked up, the hummingbird flew up and hovered for a moment next to the feeder. Sure enough, it was empty.
How in the world could the little birds realize it was me that hung the feeder up there? And how did they ever figgure out that they should go find me when it ran dry? I sighed and made my way up the twisted arms of the tree and the hummingbirds hovered nearby, the sound of there wings thrumming in the in the cool morning air.
To think such a tiny bird could understand so much, the works of the Goddesses creations are a marvel indeed...

Good experience story, Fugue! Congrats on being liked by the wee little birdies :)
The picture works quite nicely. The little humming bird with the ? is sweet. And so is your big raven for hanging the feeder for it(and for not eating the little bird). Those humming birds are really smart about feeders. They buzz me all the time when I walk past our empty one.
