A fantastic gift from a fantastic friend.

The day was sunny but cool, the wind blowing softly on the summer day, taking off some of the heat. Outside the large high school, multiple furries where socializing in their own groups. All types where socializing, from goths, to geeks, to hot, to not, so on, and so forth. In the middle, a variety of furries all sat together, talking about the current going ons of the world. They soon stopped when a large horse fur came over and greeted one of them.
“Hey there pretty lady. How about you ditch these losers and hang out with me?”
The girl retaliated. She was not going to let some hunk try to win her over again.
“Sorry, I don’t sit with anyone with an IQ of mud.”
The Jock scoffed.
“Grades don’t matter much if you’re able to get a sports deal.”
“And sports deals only come to the talented, AND smart. Sorry but you just don’t sell me as the intelligent type. If you were, you would’ve never have come over here to hit on me. Or try.”
The horse growled and started to huff. He knew better than to hit a lady, let alone around a crowd. He blew steam and left without another word, leaving the girl’s friends to congratulate her yet again on another successful shooting of another’s heart.
“Geez you’re ruthless!” said a panther laughing.
“Yeah, It’s like all the boys here want a piece of you in bed!” a gazelle laughed along.
The girl only huffed back and flicked a bang out of her way.
“I’m just tired of men ogling me for my looks. Then they have the nerve to talk about my friend’s right afterwards. It’s not worth my time. Besides, I put focus in studies, not men.”
The gazelle grinned “Oooh~ Miss Sally likes the girls then~ trading the Joysticks in for something better are you?”
Sally immediately blushed. Having a girl in her life wasn’t what she was talking about either, but the thought of having a more caring partner around did make her somewhat think about settling down with one. She immediately shook her head to get rid of the thoughts.
“Nuh! I’m not like that either! Cut that out Susan!”
Susan only giggled more. The other three friends continued to chuckle and chat until a familiar sound was heard. The school bell rang loudly and soon everyone was heading home for the day. The group all looked at each other before getting up and grabbing their things.
They knew the school day never ended for them and a select few. The group of teens left their usual sitting spot to go back into the school, climb the stairs and enter the room of the history owl, Mr. Finch. As much as he was an uptight man about history, he had no problem with students playing games in his room. It was odd, but a very welcomed oddity.
As the students entered the room they were greeted with a surprise. And they laughed. In the center was Mr. Finch, standing tall with a videogame referenced shirt on. The shirt only had a Mario bros. shell on it, but it was portrayed as the Shell gasoline company. The history teacher gave a proud hoot.
“Ok, ok, enough with the giggles. I have to close early today but I figured I do something nice for you kids since you’re my top students. Now, with the introduction out of the way, I have games all set up. You have an hour and a half.”
Mr. Finch moved aside to let in the students get to their controllers. Only fifteen elite had the privilege of being there in the room. Mr. Finch was a hard history teacher, but was kind to even the failing students. But to his top students, he let them play games and enjoy themselves, if even for a little while. How he gets away with this, no one knows.
Sally quickly grabbed a PS3 controller and started playing with the other students. The first game was Mortal Kombat. Sally had this game in the bag. Besides being a B student, she was also an avid gamer. She ranged from puzzle games, to survival horror, to action adventure and rpg, to fighting games. Sure enough, within a couple of minutes, Sally’s opponent was defeated. She cheered and high fived everyone before moving to the back of the class to wait for her next turn.
As she did, she noticed a student sitting down, away from the crowd, playing with a Gameboy all by himself. She blinked and flicked her ears, a little intrigued and curious. She stepped over to him and sat on top of the desk.
“Hey there,” she began, “What’s that you’re playing?”
Not expecting someone to greet him, the boy eeped and jumped slightly surprised. He looked up and saw Sally in the eyes. Both began to stare.
The boy was different from the “pure” furries, much like Sally was. He had blue and black fur, a long squirrel like tail, a fox like appearance, and his eyes were completely black, with the exception of his yellow pupils. He looked about the same age as Sally, a little chubby, but toned.
After about a minute of staring Sally smiled and began to talk again.
“Um, hello there mr. spaceman. Want to come down to earth?”
The boy’s cheeks started to show hints of pink. As if this was the first time a girl actually talked to him. To Sally, she thought this was cute. She let out a giggle before hopping off the desk and checking the game herself.
“Oh cool! This is the new pokemon game, right?”
The boy nodded.
“Hey, I should bring my Gameboy tomorrow; we can totally battle or trade. I mean, if you’d like to do that.”
The boy nodded faster. Sally only giggled more.
“You know, you’re pretty silent for a boy. What’s wrong? Sabre cat got your tongue?”
The boy’s cheeks grew more pink before he finally opened his mouth.
“S-Sorry…”
Sally started to sway her large tail.
“Not a problem at all. I don’t think I’ve seen you before. You’re not in the morning class are you?”
“I’m in the afternoon...”
“I see I see,” Sally tilted her head, “Hey, how come you don’t play games with the others?”
The boy chuckled softly. He wasn’t going to be able to continue his game with Sally around, so he gently closed his DS.
“I’m not the sociable type as you can see... Besides, I’m not good with fighting games...”
“How about games like... WoW?”
The boy blinked and looked up at Sally.
“How’d you know?”
“Well, it’s easy to point out the hints. And it is a pretty cool game. I play it sometimes when I'm free.”
This had never happened to the boy before. In his mind, this girl was of his dreams. She loved games, was obviously smart, interested in him, and his types of games. Only thing now he was hopping for was her to bring out a plate of burgers from her back.
“Well I play the game when I’m free too... Maybe... you and me could...”
Sally cut him off and ruffled his hair, making him murr softly.
“Sure can. Maybe Friday?”
“Tomorrow..? That'd be awesome.” He smiled.
Sally smiled back.
“Then it’s a date.”
The boy’s cheeks turned immediately red. Sally began to giggle uncontrollably, making the boy act like a turtle and curl up in embarrassment. After a while Sally stopped to speak one more time.
“What’s your name? I’m Sally.”
“My names Desmond.”
“Desmond... I’ll remember it.”
Sally then moved on to the large crowd watching the game, hoping to get at least one more match in. Desmond sighed loudly. He had a date tomorrow with a girl. It was over WoW, but it felt the same to him. It counted. Desmond then pulled out his DS and continued playing his game, tail swishing behind him over the happy thoughts of tomorrow.
