Hey, I'm happy to see non-porn.
Never heard of a church being referred to as 'she', although I would guess that it's because the Church is likened to the bride of Christ or something.
Anyway, based on some stuff you said, you might wanna read up on Orthodox Christianity and/or Christian mysticism. Interesting stuff, mmmhmmm. And I guess I need to read the Vagina Monologues. You sure got fired up.

Crap, I just removed the journal before I realised you commented on it. >.< What was it you said? :<
And YES, that is an excellent book, it makes you see everything on the same level, it isn't an anti-guys book, it's a revealing the truth and meaning book, it's excellent, I got my copy at ComFest.
The Women who run with the Wolves is somewhat similar, another book I Adore, it's about how women are closer to nature than men, how you can't be truely religious without loving the Earth and how women and wolves are the same, so on. Reading it felt like I was reading a book about my POV's, only well described.
I'll try to find a book on what you mentioned as well, sounds neat, I've heard /of/ it.

Look, that's an amazing drawing, and the description made me think, for sure, but... you're lack of trust for anyone is astonishing. =/ I look at art for art, and so do a lot of people. Your art is amazing, and this picture is rather trippy, and deep. But, christ, that's just not cool...
Aww, it's okay, yeah, I feel a little rediculous for that, that's why i try to make art reflecting this stuff so it atleast kinda gets to people, but I unstand not knowing what to say, sometimes I get like that myself. >.<
It's okay, just me being foolish, thank you.

The picture its self is good but this description got me, I want to go find that book now. It sounds like a good read with fascinating ideals and I can understand some of them. The women linked to the earth thing always interested me even in a metaphorical sense. My extended relatives are native American and to see even that back the ideals of an 'Earth mother' and their respect for women as life givers always interested me.
I'm sure you can get a copy for a buck or two on Amazon.com. I got my copy from a gay/hippy/general liberal festival, I happened to find a signed copy. <3
It's a great book!
I love Native American religions/ideals for that reason, that's always interested me as well! :3

Thanks for pointing that stuff out. You see, I'm a guy, but I compleatly agree with you on that. I belive in god, but not in religon. Ever notice that our most bloody and horrible wars have been cause of religon? This is just more proof to me. Btw, love the wolf, she's looks amazing.
Well, myself and the other Christians (which is only two, for /that/ reason)I know in person have two terms, "Christians" and "relgious". Chirstian, by definition, and by the definition of "human" is impossible to be, it's an ego word, it is a word used by people who think they are better than others and slap the bumper sticker on their hummer. Religious people are people who follow a religion, not a group of rich, clueless, conservatives. Religious people respect everyone the same and love the Earth and respect religions as a whole because all the positive ones share similar basic meanings. They are about peace. That's what I am and assume you are, and is the reason I stopped going to church. That and they told me I shouldn't be a feminist. I must have been going to the wrong church, because my religion says that everyone is equal. ;)
So, the war isn't caused by the religious, it's caused by the christians.
I'm glad you like this piece! :3

Yeah, it's unfortunate that we get the reputation just because people ruined the title of our religion by pretending to be it. It's always the misused by the people that have Nothing else good going for them so they have to do so, but they can only fake it while they're alive. ;3
Woah, nice description. I've seen a performance of The Vagina Monologues but not I want to pick up the actual book... XD I don't recall the part about churches from the performance, but I guess they cut a few things for time's sake. I hate it when they do that to good books. D: But it gets people to read so yay I guess. ^^; Anyway, you've really made me think here. Fascinating art too. :) So much pretty mixed with a lot of thought, I like that!
very interesting. Never really thought of things that way. though ... another point... I was reading about the symbols. The heart symbols meaning kinda comes from another source as well. Way Way Way WAY back when in the old days there was a natural plant that produced a seed that people found to be affective as a contraceptive. It was like the very first pill... Sex workers and guys would buy them. Guys would give them to girls that they only wanted to sleep with. .... The seed was shaped roughly like a Heart (or the symbolic heart shape...) and that's another place it came from since it was used for... Erhurm - Romantic incidents only where people wanted to have free love with out the idea of kids...
Unfortunately, people were so damn horny that they literally used it till it was gone from the face of the earth! honestly... I would've preferred that to the pill... :[
just another site - otherwise - AWESOME DETAIL!!! XD very nice i like with especially because it has meaning.

Yeah, that's one reason the heart was originally linked to women, not strictly romance like it became. It was also a yonic symbol because as described in the book, the symbolic shape was originally based after the symetrical shape of open labia, much more than the shape of the organ with the symbols' namesake. Also because people once thought that reproduction happened when your blood mixed during sex and that's where refering to your family as 'your blood' originated, be glad they thought that considering what you might be calling your family as an alternative. XD
I agree, I havn't been on the pill in so long, I'm only going back because my period cramps are getting bad again, but only if I can't find an all natural alternative. I'm trying organic "PMS Tea" X3
But as for something all natural that covers the other reason for BC pills, I'm sure you can find something that does that too.
I'm glad you like this piece! :3

About churches, taking a course on the Vatican (had an art history requirement to fill, bah)
The design of the church, atleast the first specifically Christian churches, were taken from a very popular Roman building style, which they may have picked up from the Greeks. its a building style popular for public places like baths, forums, and of course meet n greet the emperor with judical proceedings. Emperors originally sat in the 'apse', but ever since Constantine, bishops and pops have.

AWESOME DETAIL!!!!!LOL!!!!!!! =B
Now that that's out, it is a beautiful piece and very expressive. I don't browse for porn so yeah, whatev. I felt the need to point something out though.
I haven't read either books (though now I want to), I find it funny and just a little ironic that they point out how women are closer to the earth but men were made by God from dirt. Dunno if either books touched on that, its just something I thought of and found amusing.
Beautiful piece, very well executed.

You can if you go to a real one, and trust me, 'those people' don't. The last time I went to a chruch was on vacation in Michigan a couple years ago, the teaching was done by a man that was almost complete in his surgery to become a woman, the teaching was about accepting gays and other people who are different in one or two ways but otherwise the same as everyone else.
Sure seems more religious to me than anyone going around in the KKK saying they are a Catholic.. Good luck there guys!

On the artwork: I like the overall layout of this, as the use of symbols and the objects which seem to float above her open palm almost give this a dream-like quality to it’s appearance. I love the detail you put into the background flower petals and leaves just under them. I also really like the detail and style of her hair as well and I think the overall appearance of this piece looks really, really good.
In regard to the description: I can’t say I fully understand everything you mention in your description (I’m not going to act like I know if I don’t) but for what I do understand, I can see how there is a separation of the sexes in terms of males often trying to establish power and authority over women throughout time (and even now). I can also see how they would try to define certain things relating to women in a way that would prevent people from thinking men and women were equal to each other in an overall balance. As in males trying to take on everything that has to do with power or authority.
Not sure if I'm on the right train of thought, but that’s what I got from the description.

I don't post much on FA, since rarely is there something to post about but I'll shake off my anonymity for a moment to speak.
I love this piece for the art and the spirit behind it. This is a great pet issue of mine, art and religion/spirituality and this piece embodies it perfectly. The power of art to express our personal religious and spiritual identities is immense and profound when used coherently. So much of religion, morality, and spirituality is discussing things that defy our ability to communicate verbally that art becomes one of the most effective and moving methods by which to communicate and this piece exhibits just that. What the commentary on the piece says is a companion to the piece itself, the wonderful use of symbols, line work, and composure say as much as the words. I only wish more people used their art in such uplifting ways. So, bravo and please, continue on the world needs more art that is truly deep.
That said, I agree with a lot that has been said about the coopting of religion and religious names. (And about old churches. Though modern buildings tend to move away from the yonic vaulted ceilings and aisles and women ministers are becoming more prevalent in Protestant denominations.) This is part of the reason many people now claim to be "spiritual" but not "religious" because so many acts are carried out in the names of various religions that are painful. The movement toward being purely spiritual or religious but without traditional forms is a fascinating one and it is increasing in size every year. A study by the Pew Foundation recently unclosed massive numbers of Americans leave the religion of their childhood as they age, for many reasons assuredly, but the misuse of their traditions is surely there. But let me link my two points. Because of this divorce of people from their traditional religions, instead to spirituality or unspecified religiousness or even religious identity that is at tension with the orthodox order, is why we so desperately need art that speaks spiritually.
As society moves away from traditional religious and sources it loses its ability to communicate through pre-set symbols. The Christian cross is almost meaningless in the post-modern era but art which is reborn every time it is created remains poignant. Art should never be or replace a religion but it can, and I think should, be a way of communicating spiritually. For this reason alone religious/spiritual art should be encouraged and the creators encouraged. Art is a ubiquitous language and we are all blessed when artists share like this. So thank you.
(In case you wonder, this is my field of graduate study so I'm quite passionate about it.)
