So the 3.0 ears were just placeholders - a quick bit of warping of a plane with a thickness modifier.
As a separate object, there was no blending of the shape between the two, so they looked kinda tacked-on, which is exactly what they were.
This is a proper subdivided extrusion from the original head mesh, and involved a whole lot of brow-furowing, head-scratching vertex manipulation since I need to keep this a true 'watertight' hull for manufacturing purposes - so despite the minor visual changes, I feel justified in making this a .5 version jump!
