"Can I keep it, mama?"
"...Go ask your father..."
[Side note: Salkahi is my own species, exists since 2003. This picture is from 2009. Big postcreated creature is Sympathy, though this real name is not known commonly.]
Javiki was a young salkahi, and like most of children, he had free mind to see everything how they really looked like. One day he came home after playing a little while in near forestside - with a huge friendly skull-faced creature.
His mother, Vinna, had already seen much extraordinary and supernatural things - all that because of her husband - but this can't be a good sign when the boy starts bring occultic animals home too. It was unnerving enough when furniture moves on its own sometimes. And that wasn't even near the worst.
Veriki the Sorcerer, Javiki's father and Vinna's husband, hadn't gotten his name vainly. In young age he got interested about supernatural things, beings and everything, and just drifted middle of things which weren't even known by so called "normal" folk. Big skullfaced creature's skullface was invisible (means they thought they see its face but can't really describe its look...just something with skin maybe) for most of people - their mind just refuses to see anything outside of the laws of common logic. He, instead, knew what it was without doubts. Javiki was still a kid and their mind couldn't cheat them, but Veriki believed his son would see the truth in the future also. And Vinna - she didn't believe at first but she had to admit all things aren't like they look like. Veriki had shown all more and less creepy truths behind common senses (everything he only could) but Vinna never ran away (...oh well, at least she came back every time). Veriki was tall and handsome in salkahi's eyes (but same time he was something strange - if a thing like "weresalkahi" was ever existed, Veriki could have easily been one) and quite nice natured so Vinna decided to stay no matter what happens.
Anyway, Veriki gave current name "Stargazer" to this creature and it was a nice pet after all. It was clean and very useful mattress sometimes.
... I don't have space enough, otherwise I would like to get Sympathy as a pet too.
Pencil, aquarels.

Seems fairly decent lore. One problem though. While the mind does reject impossible things like when a plastic cast of a face is inside out, the mind would accept a skull face because it is absolutely possible as a concept to have exterior bones.
Other than that, it's a great picture with some decent story behind it.
