Been a slow week, full of rain.
But, we ended it nicely when a co-worker informed me that a large spider was outside. I had my camera on me today, so I went out to investigate.
She was busily working over a mass of something, but I couldn't make it out since she was high enough and far enough away i couldn't get terribly close.
I can see now, in the photos, that we apparently have a lot of yellow-jackets on the Island that I wasn't aware of. :P
Neoscona crucifera. I don't have a common name for this spider. Just another big beautiful orb weaver.

Creepy or not, spiders are very handy critters. They kill off the truly annoying pests out there for us.
Hell, unless it's venomous, I never have the heart to kill one if it's in my house. I pick 'em up and toss 'em outside. ^__^ I figure for ever spider saved, that's a dozen less other creepy-crawlies entering my home.
