As a person who RPs big cats avidly, from my own research (because I know there is a misconception about big cats and purring) noting observations from zoologists and Darwin himself... All big cats can purr (they have the physical means to purr) but unlike house cats who can purr on inhale and exhale, big cats that do purr only purr on exhale. The sound also comes out as more of a chuff than the purr most are familiar with, but this is the reason for the mix up. Tigers, cheetahs, ocelots, and pumas are big cats that are known to purr. Lions, leopards, and jaguars do not even though they have the means to do so. The distinction seems to come from the ability to roar, which big cats have and house cats do not. The big cats evolved a different hyoid (the bone structure that allows both purring and roaring.) In big cats it is flexible which allows for a deeper reverberation (roar) and in house cats it is hardened which allows for continuous vibrations as higher tones (purr). This is the primary reason for the difference in their vocalizations.

FINALLY someone who actually made her look cute and appealing.
No offense but Dreamworks always seems to screw up their tigers to an unappealing state.
I really wanted to like Master Tigress a lot more than I do, but just couldn't due to her design.
Regardless of that here, beautiful rendering of her here!

Take a look at some of Master Tigress's concept art, and take a look at some of Dreamworks rendering of male tigers in the KFP universe. Their (males) faces are a bit longer to help the visual distiction of male to female, and they made all the character models of of animals in the KFP universe to be closer to actual animals and not too humanoid. The popeye arms, the Stewie Griffin face, the short legs, they're all there intentionally.
I personally think they did a good job staying true to the animals they referenced in the movies. And I personally think that Hyhlion is an awesome KFP artist in a sea of many.

Interestingly enough of of the two big cats in the film, I actually preferred Tai Lung's design as far as cats go way better than Tigress.
I though they goofed a bit in making Vitali again just too angular and distorted to be likable as a design. I much prefer Alex and the Cheetah's design to Vitali. I dunno, Dreamworks just kinda fails at designing good looking tigers.
