WING REFERENCE WIP
This is a mess right now... but I wanted to show what I have so far, and I want to ask you guys what you'd like to see how to draw wings in certain ways. Then I can come back to this page to see what people would like to see.
All of this will be explained on the final piece, too. I will explain why in my eyes the wings in the upper left corner are wrong, and then with how I draw wings compared to how bat wings really are. (for example, I draw "hands" for the wings instead of just having a clump right by the thumb, where all the fingers come out from.)
This will ONLY be about membraned wings. So please no questions about feathered wings.
This all will be inked, too. What I am also trying to do is showing how to draw the wings, with the fingers first, and then adding in the membrane second.
SO YEAH, what things about these kinds of wings would you like to know about/how to do?

She said no avian/feather wings. :< Here's a good tutorial for those : http://theantimonyelement.deviantar.....lery/#/d2ht4et
Yes! I see a lot of "step by step" tutorials, but I personally don't think those help too much. People must know the underlying structure, and not just with one pose!
I think I might, but not until after this one is done. I'm much stronger with membraned wings than feathered wings, and I see many feathered wings tutorials out there... yet with the membrane ones, they aren't so well done. Hurgh.

I agree. I think a sheet on the actual anatomy underneath is so much more helpful than step-by-step. I feel studying the actual nature is more helpful, but that's just me.
I have noticed! You are very good at those wings, and the membrane wings seem to give a lot of people trouble with the bones and how they are like hands.

yes! I just... can't stand the step by step thing. xD It's EVERYWHERE. for me it will be going "DO A BUNCH OF GESTURE DRAWINGS. YEAH. DO IT. REALLY QUICK. LOOSE."
what's funny with that is feathered wings give me a lot of trouble. xD It's fine when I take my time on them... but if I don't have any refs, or just wanna draw it quickly, at times I don't draw the wings right. FEATHERS. WHAT DO.
But with membraned wings, it seems a LOT easier for me. @_@ Just drawing an arm with LONG fingers, then connect them with a sheet. :'D

Hhhha yes. Gesture drawings are the best to me.
Hahaha oh yeah. I typically draw really loosely and gesture-based so I tend to simplify feathered wings, and don't draw every feather. I just put in primaries and secondaries, and a sort of line-block for the coverts so show where they are.
Hahah yeah membraned wings are just like that! I also like how you kind of have a pterodactyl-y win too. I think you should try those since they only connected the membrane to one finger.

I can do that~
and the one with the dip isn't an elbow spike. :'D It's just extra stretchy membrane~ I HATE elbow spikes. The line there... I dunno why I did that. xD maybe to show that it's more stretchy... I dunno. It will be more clear when I ink. :3
And what do you mean by this last question? @3@

Would you happen to have anything about Little Brown Bat wings? I plan on drawing something for a friend of mine whose fursona is a little brown bat. But he has three fingered hands instead of the claw; kind of like some bats you see here around FA. Everyone designs their characters/fursona's differently, but I'd at least want to get the wings looking somewhat correct. Sorry if I sounded confusing or anything. >.<'
There are no alive bats that don't have a thumb. Every bat has a thumb, so if your friend is wanting it correct to what a bat's wing is, it must have a thumb, and ONE thumb. D: and 4 fingers. Not 3.

Note that the second and third finger are connected to each other. (the thumb is the "first finger")
They are just like human hands, just with elongated fingers! Don't follow what others do when drawing wings when they aren't correct, or made up, when it comes to a bat wing.

That's what I meant actually. He only has one drawn reference of his bat fursona and the wings weren't done right. I haven't really asked him what he wants when it comes to the hands/wings. But, before I begin to draw anything for him bat related, I wanted to see what kind of reference material you have. Cause, by far, you are the best bat artist here on FA. I've seen one too many incorrect or stiff wings and it just makes me twitch. Kind of like wolves with pointy ears.
Thank you very much for the response, I'm always looking at your gallery for bat-related material.

I'm still not good at wings either in some instances. xD Certain perspectives I'm horrible at... and sometimes when they are folded. But studying bat wings will make it better! ahaha But thanks for the compliment~
Some day I'll do a whole tut on bats. Not just their wings.
