This is the final version that's going into the Blue Portfolio. I've been busy, I guess.
This turned out so friggin' awesome.
I am completely satisfied with this work.
If you like it, talk to
tamen to get some info on the port. It'll probably be available through Lulu.com

the default CS2 hard round brush has a decent line quality/variation, it's at 0%. though it depends on tablet settings and driver, some have options for pen control separate from the program. hmn, what kind of tablet are you using?
i generally use Painter for everything now, it has a great brush kernel and colour mixing dynamic.

I guess 0% seems too drastic for me, and the lines that CS2 creates, being at it's core a pixel based program, are never solid enough, especially with the way I draw (scratchy lines instead of long, flowing ones). I've played around with my tablet's settings, (it's an intuos3 6x8) and it seems that I can get a better line variation outside of 0%, even with pen pressure on, but the opacity drops on it no matter what I do. I'd love to switch to painter, I just don't have the money to get it, and from the trial I used, I have a hard time making it do what I want, so I end up going back to CS2. It's hard to shake a 7 year habit.
yeah, it is a hard transition. many artists in the field use Photoshop and Painter back-to-back, because they both do things that the other doesn't. I didn't like Painter at first due to some of the tools, but after some futzing around, it's petty amazing with brushes. the intuos3 is great, should have a lot of extra tablet options and such. But, indeed, I went into PS just now and it does have a rather drastic change. at least OpenCanvas is free and is a good lineart program substitute.
I do enjoy oc. I actually bought their latest version 4.05E or something like that. The brush modification tool is much better on oc than in PSCS2, I know that 1.1 is great for online collabs and stuff, I've never tried it but I have to admit that if I can ever figure out how to ink properly in oc (which is due to the style I draw in and my very unsteady hand) then I might do even better. Still it would be fun to do some collaborative work in oc and maybe I'll take your advice and futz around some more in painter. Some of my favorite artists swear by it.
-you are correct, this did turn out awesome- There are things in this picture that I absolutely love, and there are things that I hate. This whole picture is frankensteined. Each piece is almost perfect, but it looks like you did them separately, then added them on top of each other. The background is great, but the contrast between it and the anthro is sharp. Similarly, the ears and hair look as though they were done as a set and then cut-pasted to the anthro. Don't get me wrong, they both look great. Overall, mediocre 4.4/10 on the "final" scale; In pieces, great 7.7/10 on "final" scale. 'good job'
