Dashie has always been my favorite pony, hands down. From the very begining she has stood out from the rest of the mane six. She brings people together, she isnt afraid to be herself, and she is always confident in her abilities.
I also love her faults...its always heartwarming watching her comes to terms with her own personal flaws and then overcome them. I love her bright, sporty personality and how loyal she always is to her friends. She's strong and fast, and can take care of others!
But what makes me sad...is how many people label her as a lesbian. Im always asking why....it seems to be more than just for the sake of fanfiction. If you want her to be a lesbian in your fanfics and for the sake of pairings, thats fine, but the overal consensus seems to be she is the lesbo of the group.
I personally have no issue with lesbians, I have several friends that are. But why is dashie one?
Is it because she's sporty, spunky and doesnt like girly things? Is it because she has rainbows? And that she is an overall tomboy? That just seems wrong. Stereotypes are a vicious thing, and even ponies are subjected to it. Something innocent slapped with labels.
I myself am a tomboy, I love getting dirty, rough and tumbling with boys and other tomgirls! I adored sports as a kid and never liked barbie dolls but trucks. And Im probably the STRAIGHTEST girl you'll find. I also love rainbows, simply because they are so bright and colorful and leave you something to look foward to after a rainy day.
Basically I just wanted to put in my two cents about her, and the things I love and the things that make me sad about this special pony.
Dashie forever <3

I don't normally fav or even glance at the pony art as of late, but I cant help but feel such great emotion from this piece. <3
I truly love your art style with this picture, taking something that has been done many times over but somehow bringing new passion to it.
Hands down, my favorite art piece in a long time. ^.=.~

I feel like the reason people label Dash as a lesbian is because of ignorance. Anyone who knows a lesbian would know that their personality has nothing to to with their sexuality.
That said, I do have an idea about sexual orientation in the pony universe- being that there is none. I like to think that no one labels anyone based on whom they love, they either like men, women, both or none
and all of them are just fine, and that discrimination that people in our world get stuck with doesn't exist. c:

Thats exactly how I feel.
It cant be like our world, but in the pony universe Im sure that ponies love who they love, regardless. There are no labels. Some may prefer one gender over another, or one exclusively, but there isnt a title or a name. Its just what it is, and they dont look at another pony and point and say what they think they are. c:

I like to think of Dash as a lesbian just for my own satisfaction. Mostly because I am a lesbian myself and Dash is my favorite character, but not for stereotypical reasons. Being I am one of the girliest lesbians ever and I hate the tomboy=lesbian crap. :P But it doesn't really matter anyways. She has no sexuality. But I do like the idea of it. And when I write or draw stuff about Dash I usually pair her with another girl. Then again, that's me. I think most people say she's a lesbian just for the stereotypes. :/
But all that nonsense aside, I really like this picture. And I love the way Dashie looks in your style. <333 X3

Oh well I could see why you would though, and its perfectly understandable! If I have a character I like, such as a CLEARLY homosexual guy, I like to play around with the idea of them being straight and having a chance haha. But thats probaly just the lil fangirl in me. :P But its the stereotypes that irk me x-x
Thankyou! <333
Thankyou! <333
I feel the same way and I to am a tommy like yourself and Dashie. Also, I am also EXTREMELY straight and it bothers me that when people view me or some other girls that I hang out with and label us as a lesbian. :\ Even my father thought this because I had rainbow colored flip flops. I guess this is an internet issue though, with subjecting shows, people or even original characters on assuming "Oh he/she is gay/lesbian."
It has always been a continuous problem in society, but a small group of people can not change the minds of millions. :(

Well, Applejack acts like a tomboy too, but I don't think she gets the same kind of accusations. That may be because as a country girl she gets a pass on that behaviour, but I think it's mostly because tomboy attitude is not really (or at least less so than it once was) seen as an indicator of homosexuality. As a society we do project certain stereotypes on to different group identities, but where one falls on the gender scale seems to be gradually becoming an independent aspect of one's personality.
Yes but Applejack still participates in girly things. Like the hooficure... she strikes me more of plain jane. She also cooks. Now I notice Applejack is paired with Rainbowdash more often than the others. I think its due to similar personalities. Rainbowdash is probably the most masculine female pony in the group.
Which personally I object anyone who claims any of the pony has a sexual orientation. Its fine if you imagine so but its not something you should say is true. Personally for my own satisfaction they are all in a lesbian orgy. I really like Luna/Twilight pairings...idk why?

Naw, never seen her as a lesbian, no mater how much I do enjoy TwiDash >.> She is just a fun loving sporty girl, but also has a sensitive and effeminate side to her. One of the reasons I love her and Twilight so much is because they have the most depth, are the most real and I dare say the most human of all the characters. Rarity is a close second behind those two. Yeah, I know how she is, but I love my little diva.
Applejack is too... perfect... Fluttershy too flawed and Pinkie is... do I really need to say it?

Gyaaah yes. And especially yes her coming to terms with her own flaws.... (I could stand to do that too, LOTS, so it's easy to relate.)
...and yah, I dunno why people call her lesbian all the time, it gets annoying. :c I always thought it was because people associate her having rainbows, just haaaad to mean she was lesbian--also, it sucks, the rainbow association thing. I wanna wear rainbows 'cuz they're FUN and FULLA COLORS just like Dash :D... but then people associate that with advertising being gay/bi, when I'm just straight. I wanna wear rainbows and bright colors because rainbows and bright colors, not for any other reason. :/ To me Dash isn't lesbian, her sexuality isn't ever an issue... she's faster than a Veyron, fulla courage and awesome and fun and bright ridiculous garish best colors, and that's what I enjoy from her. And also that Dashmane gaaah <333 I'm still trying to replicate it... XD
YOU ROCK forever in drawing this, and I'm surprised how ...just lovable and cute and adorable you drew both of you, hnnng the hoofblush and noseblush and featherblush, that's one of my favorite parts of your arts, all the blushes. :3

I love this! Despite that you drew these two slightly more 'realistic' then the show does, the colouring is just amazing and makes up for it and then some. Personally I'm more a fan of the orgiginal 'cartoony' style regarding muzzle and hooves etc. I dont actually like horses that much XD
But this. this is an instafav :)
About the Dashie = lesbian thing...
TL;DR: stereotyping and labeling kinda just happens, and while it can be a bad thing it doesn't have to be.
TS;EM: (Too Short;Explain More: )
In my own headcanon, she's the one most likely to end up with another mare of all the main 6 too. And yes, that's because of the tomboy-sporty-rainbow mane stereotyping, but I don't see these stereotypes as a negative thing, it's merely a way to organize.
We're preprogrammed to put labels on everything because being able to sort stuff out in our minds is a way our minds work, and that's not a good nor a bad thing that's just how we work.
So in my mind I filed her away under 'gay' in the sexuality department because of those 'clues'. There's got to be a system for sorting, and since all of the six are single and no clues have been given about their sexuality, these stereotypes are the only thing I can go on, and until there's evidence that she's in the wrong filing cabinet so to say, that's where she automatically ends up. In my head.
Stereotypes -can- be a negative and vicious thing indeed, but only if there's negative feelings/emotions are attached to the label. When someone thinks 'being gay is wrong' stereotypes are indeed vicious, but in my head being gay is fiiine and it doesn't mean anything more then what gender a person (or pony) is attracted to. And there's nothing wrong with that, only many things very very good about loving someone. Regardless of anyone's gender :)
(Also in my headcanon, Equestria is a (near) ideal society, where being gay or straight or bisexual really, really doesn't matter to anyone. Or simply doesn't mean anything to anyone. The way it should be in our own society.)
