This is a character I made up and drew in high school, so I'm gonna say it's from 2003 or 2004. I clearly intended to use him as a roleplaying character for a now defunct chat community called Furry Island, but I never actually used him for anything.
When I was in high school I went through a period of being fascinated by the Amish, probably sparked by watching the documentary "The Devil's Playground." That film focused on rumspringa, or Amish adolescence. During rumspringa, Amish teens frequently (but not always) engage in "rebellious" behavior outside of their communities' usual customs. In the end, they will either choose to be baptized into the church or they will permanently leave the community. Rumspringa fascinated me because I saw it as a rite of passage, a period of self-discovery. I liked that the teens were given the opportunity to "experiment" with the outside world and given a choice about what path they wanted to take.
Along with the drawing, I found a handwritten profile which I've typed up and included below. When I use the term "English" I mean "English" in the Amish sense, referring to the non-Amish western world.
Name: Johannes Bachmeier
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Physical Description: An anthropomorphic goat/sheep hybrid. Looks mostly like a bipedal, off-white goat with beard trimmed off [apparently I decided "off-white" was too plain and gave him some color and markings]. Large brown eyes and golden-tan spiral thick horns, curved backward. Pinkish inner ears. Bodily proportions similar to a child. Legs/feet are digitigrade cloven hooves, hands are cloven hooves with opposable thumbs.
Attire: "Amish" attire is a black wide-[b]rimmed hat, a white dress shirt, a black jacket, and black pants. Suspenders underneath. No buttons. "English" attire varies. May be a dress shirt and khakis, or a T-shirt and loose jeans.
Youth: Johannes was born and raised in Furry Island's only Amish community, situated in a grassy, flatter region at the forest's edge. The community, which long banned inter-species marriage, now encourages it to avoid problems from inbreeding.
Johannes is the oldest boy in a family with 4 children. His mother is a sheep, his father is a goat. His father's brother left the Amish church in his late teens and now lives in the city. He is shunned by his family members and former community.
Understandably, Johannes was raised in a strict household with a strong work ethic. He is used to a strong sense of community, and being semi-alone in Furry Island's "English" world may depress him.
He likes being with others, and playing athlethic games. He is good natured, and tends to bottle up any anger. He likes girls but is fairly unfamiliar with them. In his community, the young boys and girls tend to hang out separately.
Johannes is now on his rumspringa. He will explore the lifestyle of the outside world until he decides to either join it or return to his community and join the Amish church. He is currently [I stopped writing here. I probably meant to talk about him temporarily leaving the community and living in a youth hostel.]

Very little. Like I texted you, most of my "new" work (and I use that term loosely) is for school. I owe people art, and I finally have TIME to do it while school is out, so I really ought to get drawing. But I almost never WANT to draw anymore, and when I do put pencil to paper, it feels very awkward. I want so badly to do a good job that I let fear of doing a BAD job kind of paralyze me. And in the end nothing gets drawn. It's pretty sad.
