I've had this guy built for a while, and partly painted for a shorter while. Finished him earlier this week - or late last week; I don't really remember.
It's
kurisu7885 's birthday present for this year - a miniature styled around him. Though his birthday is on July 8th, I decided to post it early for some reason.
Parts were taken from several different kits - the body and backpack from a Dark Angels Veteran, the head from a Space Wolf, the tail from a WHFB Goblin Wolf Rider's mount, arms, stormbolter, and sword from a power armored Grey Knight, shoulderpads from a vanilla Marine, purity seals and other details from a bunch of different kits.
Initially, I wanted to use sword arms that would hold the two-handed sword more vertically, but I had ended up using my last set on a different model, and this was all I had left. While I could have removed those arms and placed them on this model, I didn't want to risk ruining the parts, since I'm rather clumsy with my plastic clippers. Still, the pose I ended up with is nice.
I also tried something new on this model. I tried to make a greenstuffed hood, but that didn't go well, and I ended up making a HUGE mess on the model and myself with vaseline - I'd heard that when working with greenstuff, vaseline makes it easier to work with. Eventually, I gave up on that, and just removed all the greenstuff and washed the model clean by bathing it in soapy water.
I'm not sure I cleaned it enough or right, though, because the paint came off in places after I had primed and painted it. That could just be because I used a more normal spraypaint and not a primer spraypaint, though, because I wanted to have a black primer coat, and my currently preferred spraypaint brand doesn't have a black primer version - just grey and white.
Regarding the parts; I ended up cannibalizing one of my Sternguard Veterans to make this one. I used Dark Angels Veterans to make my Sternguard Vets, because by the time I got around to getting any Sternguard Vets, the official models had been turned into Finecast. As such, they were available only in the 5-model box, so I couldn't pick and choose which weapons I wanted my guys to have.
I'm going to use this model as a Space Marine Captain in my WH40k games, with a Relic Blade and Stormbolter. Depending on the new Space Marine Codex that's inevitably going to come out a few months down the line - since SM usually get their update early in new editions - I may have to alter that choice. I'll probably field him with a Command Squad, maybe in a Razorback or something.
I guess that's all I have to say about this model for now.
WH40k and its related stuff belong to Games Workshop. Kurisu's character belongs to himself. And the photo and model belong to me.

Erm...
I thought I mentioned, but maybe not.
The greenstuff was a failed attempt at a hood that I had to remove because it looked terrible. There's no green stuff on the model at all anymore, except maybe some molecules that didn't get washed off.
So it's just a kitbash, but thank you. ^_^
