He knew his fate was sealed. He realized it the very moment he saw that glowing rune on the inside of the chest. But it was already too late – the spell was triggered. He felt the magic energies flowing thru his body, changing it. He didn't wait long to see the effects of his mistake. His brown fur slowly began to turn into smooth, cold metal. He tried to run, but his legs were already stiff and immobile. He tried to scream but his vocal cords were already turning into precious metal. The process was not painful, nor even unpleasant. It was... odd – the sensation of warm flesh changing into inanimate metal.
He couldn't do anything but stand there and gaze upon the transformation in shock. He was staring at his hand – he could “feel” it. He knew it was his, yet... he couldn't even move it an inch. Slowly the world around him became... not dark, but gold. The world froze in a perfect still image of gold. He didn't went deaf either. He could hear the surrounding like thru a metallic wall. He was helpless – trapped in his own body, which now was just a solid gold statue.
He began contemplating his fate – he didn't have anything better to do in his position...
Just a little attempt at coloring some OLDpic. I actually started this one as an attempt of practicing some gold coloring. Was pretty fun, though when i reached the fur texture, i stopped. Later i did forget about this pic a bit. But i did decide to post it. I know it's technically unfinished (and i kinda feel like cheating by posting the same pic colored a bit X3) but i think it would be a waste if i kept it away. So here You go folks!

It's pretty. I like the way you did the bright spots in the metal.
Minor quibble: Because the light reflects off the downward-facing part of the left leg, the apparent light source is in front of him, but that makes the left arm lighting look off, as the light there seems to come from above.
A trick I've seen aggro_badger do in streams is to rotate the image before lighting adjustments, perhaps to eliminate our cognitive bias for recognizing living tissue, to help lighting object surfaces consistently without ray tracing.
