.....okay, i said i wouldn't post any more work-in-progress pics of this piece so that when the finished work is posted everyone can go "OoooooooooooooH!"...but...welll...
The butterflies and background aren't going to be these colours, sort of a digital underpainting....but it looks sorta cool like this, so i thought i'd post it... ^_^ The finished version will look quite different from this....
will move it to scaps in a couple days...The fur fx are only half done, and i haven't started painting details in dress and feathers and gold, let alone lighting fx....
Will amend this info tomorrow to link to previous posts...i gotta go snooze...

Late 60's psychedelic art drew on this sort of nostalgia thingy - Like the cover of Sgt.Pepper's, Led Zep 1, CSN&Y's Deja Vu - Early Frisco concert posters by Rick Griffin and Mouse&Kelly referenced Mucha, Parrish, etc, but my reference isn't from them (Griffin and Mouse&Kelly)...
When i wuz 9 yrs old (around '68) we moved to West Hollywood. me mum (a sort of liberated eccentric person) took my sister and i to all the headshops on Hollywood Blvd (hight of the hippy times) - we saw all those blacklight posters in waves of inscence acid rock whoknowswhat, and as a kid my walls were covered with them lit by blacklight ) - Then in some headshop i saw a Maxfield Parrish poster, then a - a MUCHA poster!!!!
( Mucha and Gauguin have been my fave artists for most of my life - different styles, but they were close friends)
Roger Dean's art for "Yes" continued the Mucha influence. Then mid-late '70s fantasy art revival via Kaluta, Windsor-Smythe, etc...
i didn't learn of Griffin's and Mouse&Kelly's work until i was in my 30s - and while i like it,no, that isn't the influence here - it's going back to seeing those original Mucha posters....
Rebby reffed herself as a hippy, and i was trying to figure out what hippy means now what it meant then and clicked in with image - envisioning peace, wonder, beauty, ecology, all that stuff....
BTW, i wuz a Punk in my 20s, New Wave late 20's, World-Beat, etcetcetc as time moves on...Gives a wide range of moods and styles to play with....
These days i listen to all kinds of music look at all kinds of art....that's sort of psychedelic in away....

Yeah. I grew up in the late 60s-early '70s listening to psychedelia, got into big-band and New Wave and am now happily stuck between 1920-1980 mostly...
Art influences? CARToons, especially Jerry Barnett (who taught me to draw cars in 3/4 view), and classic EC artists (Wood, Davis, Severin, Elder)...

Heeeeeeeeeeee!!!! ^_^ ^_^ ^_^
The finished piece is going to look rather different - individual butterfly colours, less dark purple background, etc - but this just looked so fun....
It's being a bit of a slow process - i had all these custom brushes and patterns i made in my old software - i'm sort of recreating them in Gimp - fine tuning...
Thanks for being patient with it all!!
(Heeee! Reminds me of the line from Lilo&Stitch: Mr.Cobra Bubbles: "Thus far, you have been adrift in the sheltered harbor of my patience....". )
