In which I try not to suck and maybe sort of kind of succeed. I guess.
I spent many more hours on this than I care to mention. Honestly I think I lost count. Had to be at least 150. Which wouldn't be too bad for me for a full piece, but these are just heads.
I'm still not completely happy with the ears or nose on the half-perspective view on the right, but this is the best I can do right now and it at least seems passable. For those who are wondering, I did this to try and actually figure out a bunch of problems I was having recently getting that perspective to both not look like total ass and actually look like who it is supposed to look like.
As for the hair, I just stumbled across it randomly while messing around with the oil brush tools in ArtRage and managed to reproduce it with some measure of consistency, by some miracle. Though it does present some problems; for one actually doing more coarse or messy hair presents problems, and I need to try and play around with it to see if it still looks right if used on a high resolution 'working copy' image that is meant to be scaled down for the final thing.
The eyes also ended up looking strange as just a flat colour, so I used this tutorial for the most part. Albeit I modified the technique a little; I don't like the look of eyes that are pretty much pupil-coloured except for a relatively small section. It just doesn't look very natural to me.
Although I did ask some family members for their opinions, and my mother said he looks like someone else whom I would rather forget about forever. After searching the internet for pictures I have no clue what the hell she was talking about but that still has a bit of a negative impact on my perception of this piece. Not to mention it ended up jogging memories I would have been very content to leave forgotten. Too late now.
I mean for fuck sake, unless I've horribly screwed something up, he doesn't even have a female facial structure.
But enough of my ranting.
I'll leave this mostly unshaded, I don't think I can really deal with shading just yet, and this thing has drained me enough as it is. In any case now that I have the face down somewhere I can finish something else I was working on before my work slammed headfirst into a brick wall. Made of Tigers.
I'll spend time at some point in the future trying to make shading look nice.

Thanks, though maybe it's a case of being my own worst critic, or something. I know in my head what I was going for, so I am essentially compelled to perform surgical criticism strikes on myself since for the most part I can see exactly where I was incapable of achieving what I had in mind. >_>;
