Just a quick pic of me circa 1991. Back when Star Wars was unquestionably good, the chronic insomnia had only recently set in, never had a broken heart and my greatest stress was possibly missing "Knightmare" or "The Animals of Farthing wood". I was young and foolish, the world had yet to break me in, the voices in my head went unquestioned and i'd just got my paws on a 14.4k modem and a CompuServe subscription.
and Yes, I did wear huge steampunk Harry Potter glasses.
Yes that was what I wore pretty much every day until I was 13 (there was worrying short shorts to go with it too. Thanks to the Nazis I didn't get to wear full length trousers until my teens either; long story).
Yes, I did have a text book with the Monas Hieroglyphicas on the cover; I forget the book's title and most of what was actually in it but I recall needing it for several classes each day.

in 1991 I was 17 and in high school
and other than facial hair and chest hair, I looked pretty much the same as I do now: broad shoulders barrel chest, spare tire, and rather dower.
My hair is longer now, and it features multiple colors, something I did not have in my youth, and two piercings in each earlobe... which doesn't mean anything anymore but USED to mean something back in the day.
I asked my best friend of 35 years the other day if he'd seen any chances in me since we'd been kids, he replied "Well, you are more cynical now..."
ah friendship. friends know you best, and help hide the bodies without asking too many questions, at least not until afterwards. by that time they are full blown accessories to whatever it was you actually did, and will do as much time as you... so they might as well know what happened
I will say this, the School Uniform thing: I can see both sides of the argument, for and against school uniforms. I was teased incessantly about my second had decades out of style clothing and had no recourse because my mother did the clothing shopping... If i'd have been in a school with uniforms I wouldn't have had to put up with that. then again, by high school I was a BIG GUY, and while not an impressive build I was intimidating enough with my camo pants, Marine ballcap, and heavy denim and leather jacket (even in summer) that most people had decided to leave me the hell alone.
it's hard to be intimidating in knickerbockers and a tie with a beenie cap.

I wonder if anyone who knew the blond-haired, blue-eyed six-year-old who wore his cousin's hand-me-downs and always had a personality conflict with the teacher would recognize me now.
I was book smart but knew nothing of the world beyond a few random facts. I only had one good friend, whom I haven't heard from since 1995 and who may not even be alive any more (I tried to find him in 2007 and the trail went cold).
My hair turned brown around age 12, my eyes took on a gray-green hue, and some time around 8 or 9 the meds I was on caused me to gain weight and I've been overweight ever since.
Of all the things I had back then, I miss my first cat and dog, my thin figure, and my blond hair the most.
