Shadows eyes snapped open suddenly as he smelled bacon being cooked “Bacon!?” He yelled turning around to look at the kitchen. Shadow saw Dashed with his shirt off, exposing his back and hiding the pan of bacon he was frying, Dashed turned around and said, “Bonjour, I took ze liberty of looking through your uncle’s bunker and found zat zere was refrigeration down there, I also raided your uncle’s pantry if you don’t mind.”
Shadow turned to the table and saw that there was already a plate of eggs, bread, nutella, butter, and two placemats already set out for them. He rushed over to the table and gobbled down his food quickly..having not eaten in the last 24 hours at all. Suddenly Dashed went over and slapped him upside the head, “do not eat yet! I have not sit down, the food is not ready, and if you eat that fast we’ll have no time to talk!”
Shadow grumbled something unintelligible then put down the plate and sat crossed arms on the chair waiting for Dashed to finish.
Dashed carefully placed the bacon onto a plate, walked over, and sat down. He motioned to shadow to continue eating and grabbed a slice of bread and began to spread some butter on it. Shadow, on the other hand readily dug into his food again eating it all rapidly and swallowing food before chewing it. Dashed shook his head before taking a single bite and slowly chewing, he turned to Shadow and politely said, “Are you going to stay here after you're done filling your face?” Shadow stopped eating for a second and looked up and Dashed, nodding slightly, then went back to finishing up eating what was left on his plate. Dashed shook his head, finished his slice, put on a small amount of eggs and bacon on his plate before continuing to eat slowly, even though he was, admittedly, starving.
“let me ask you a question, how long does breakfast normally take you?”
“It usually takes a few minutes, i don't eat too much in the morning, today i was just starving” Shadow said, finishing up his meal.
“I see, and how long do you think it takes me?”
“You seem to eat relatively slow, i would guess 20 minutes or so”
“Oiu, about zat, and do you know why I take zat long?”
“because you are a gentleman and want to seem civilized”
“No, it is because I usually have someone to talk to and” Dashed reached for another slice of bread along with a strip of bacon, “I like to enjoy my food, not swallow it without a single thought.”
“Well when you're starving and haven't eaten in a long time, your first response it to fill your stomach, besides now that i am done we can talk about whatever you wanted to say” Shadow said getting up to put his dishes in the sink.
“Good point, so I do need to ask you something, why were you in Seattle?”
Shadow sighed, thinking back “I had to get a job, everything was going down in the east coast and i had to find a way to support myself, only thing i could find was to be a tour guide to the new citizens”
Dashed took a small bite from his bread before gesturing to continue talking.
Shadow looked a little uneasy, he looked outside the window, watching the small wildlife outside, “Well I mostly left the east coast due to some...unsavory characters, that I went to after my family abandoned me.”
Dashed finished his bread and leaded back on the chair, “your family abandoned you?”
Shadow nodded his head, “Yeah, they left but even while they were there...I was pretty much left alone, i learned to fend for myself. It wasn’t easy but I was one of the tougher people in my neighborhood...and well that attracted a lot of attention...the wrong kind of attention.”
Dashed gave a slice of bread with butter to Shadow, he took it and began to chew slowly. Dashed got himself another slice and asked, “What did you do?”
Shadow held up one finger, swallowed, and explained, “Well all my life I was kind of a loner, and because I didn’t have....well, any friends, I was an easy target for most kids. This continued into highschool, I was long used to the constant teasing and occasional mild violence until Robert came to school.”
Dashed nodded, he took a small sip from his coffee before asking, “So what happened?”
Shadow sighed with anxiety; he slid the plate away from him and clasped his hands together, “Well over that summer I decided to bulk up, not by much, only 10-15 pounds, but I thought that was enough to make some of the other kids leave me alone. It did, a lot of the old kids became fatter or weaker over that summer as they discovered pot and decided to leave the more fit Shadow alone. However there was a new kid, he wasn’t in my middle school due to strange living conditions but he was in my high school.”
Dashed nodded, slid the coffee cup over, Shadow grabbed it, took one sip before spitting in onto the table, “What’s in this?!?”
“Alcohol.”
“Damn this early? Well anyways, Robert was a gorilla...literally, he was also a silver back so that cause problems, but he took a certain liking to me. I put up with his bullyings for about three weeks, but after he shoved me into the garbage can I couldn’t take it anymore. One two hour fight and the strategic use of a fire extinguisher later he was on the floor unconscious.”
Shadow took another sip of his drink, cringing a little but now more prepared for the flavor, “Why do you drink this in the morning, you know there is juice and milk, or even coffee in the fridge and pantry”
“because it taste good, I like it, plus I was almost eaten yesterday as well as having a laser nearly fry out my eyeball...I zink I deserve it.”
“fair enough” Shadow said, quickly swallowing the rest of his drink “So, you ready to start final lockdown procedures?”
“Sure, let’s just clean up first, I wash you dry.”
At this Dashed got up and began picking up all the dishes he could. He placed them in the sink and began washing, he motioned to shadow to join him. Shadow walked over to the pantry, grabbing a cloth rag and stood next to Dash, drying the dishes he hands him.
Dashed washed the last glass and asked, “So what are the final lockdown procedures?”
Shadow smiled “it's a fun one, test out if the guns work, set up electric fence, all the deadly stuff”
“Great, so do I stand outside and wave a red flag around?”
“no” Shadow turns to go into a closet next to the door, pulling out what looks like a MP40
“This fires disks, the motion detection should pick them up and activate, just need to do this on every turret”
Shadow tossed one to Dashed, he grabbed it and hefted it up and down a few times, “Ok, what does zis disk do?”
Shadow unlatched the clip on his, pulling out a small metallic disk “these send a magnetic pulse, activating the turrets without having to send a small animal in to kill itself”
“Oh, ok, but I was kind of looking forward to trained squirrels.”
Shadow rolled his eyes and said, “Ya, sure, it’s next to the helipad.”
Dashed picks up an MP5 looking thing, aims through the sights, points at Shadow, and asks, “So what do we do, do we just fire them at the turrets?”
Shadow aimed his at the far right corner of the fencing, shooting one of the disks, static pulses bursting through the air and 3 turrets popped out of the dirt, taking a shot at it then turning onto standby. “That's all there is to it”
Dashed nodded before firing just to the left of the turrets that popped out before. Three disks spat out of the gun, waved down to the ground, and five turrets came out of the ground. Each of the turrets had a the modified body of a M-60. Each one had a laser set on the top that traced in 45 degree turns that took 3 seconds per turn to cover. The bullets were fed through an automatic magazine that was undoubtedly underground.
The two strode around the house, shooting off the electro disks activating all the turrets and making sure the electric fence was working by poking it continuously with a stick. Dashed at one point hit the fence with his hand by accident, and he flew back a few feet in shock, his fur stood on end everywhere. His puffed out fur swayed in the wind, Shadow looked over to Dashed to see if he was ok. Dashed waved to Shadow shouting, “I ZINK ZIS PART WORKS!”
Shadow sighed, then walked over to Dashed grabbing two rubber gloves from the porch and handing them to him “I suggest you wear these if you’re going to slap the fence”
Dashed picks up the rubber gloves before throwing them at Shadow’s face, “Lasers, turrets, and electric shocks...I think the fence works.”
Dashed walked towards the house, leaving shadow to check the rest of the fence.
