Cinnamon scouts desert on Rooth'kran -- by DeadlyChestnut

So... right. Rooth and Cinnamon patrolling the skies over Pandora's desert region. HOLY COW fantastic! Look at how much went into this piece! Such atmosphere. Look at the sky! Look at the arch! Lots of detail. To say nothing of the being design. Rooth'kran was new. Cinnamon was kind of new. As a Na'vi / jackrabbit hybrid, she's a tough concept to get across. She's changed a bit from her original design. I especially like how her PandoraUSB cables came out in this one. They're perfect. Sharing a base with the ears, but becoming separate tendrils, that's turned out to be full of win. Woot! Zeroing in on reference sheet material for her!
I'm in love with this piece. This is one of those that's going to be printed and framed, methinks. And hung, of course!
I can't wait to work with D.Chestnut again. :)

Such a beautifully done piece! I really do love it, though I... must admit until I looked at *who* was actually submitting it, I first thought it was the Rooth (ruth?) from the Pern Series. *chuckles* I'm such a silly and inattentive draggy....
But really, Marvelous! :3
But really, Marvelous! :3
Funny you should mention, Rooth's origins were as Ruth, on FurryMUCK. Then I realized that playing a copyrighted character was a bad idea. Also, I was hit on constantly, by guys, and I'm a hetero guy, so that wasn't working great. ;) So I changed him, made him able to talk, gave him sails, gave him hair, gave him magic powers and an anthro form to go with his feral one. Viola! Rooth was born. =)
Ah, so I was correct in the fact that... well, white-ish dragon with an alteration on "ruth" was indeed drawn from Ruth! Mnemeth and F'lar were my faves though (sorry! D:). But that was a good idea, though I honestly don't think Ms. McCaffrey would have minded too much. *laughs* but very nice in the way you've customized him. It's kinda sad that oftentimes when people "base" off of a character, they just change a letter of the name and call it a new character* chuckles* but yeah, that's sweet! Sounds similar to wisty in the alteration powers though. :3
Actually, Ms. McCaffrey was renown for her powerful legal representatives. They took legal action against PernMUSH for using Ruatha Hold in its world, for example. And Fort Weyr, too. If she knew I was portraying Ruth at the time, she would have slapped me but good. ;)
But, I don't begrudge her these things. She may RIP knowing that I bore her no ill will for clamping down on PernMUSH and other things that invaded on her franchise. It was hers, after all. Sure do wish they'd get that movie going, though!

Oh. Right. Completely forgot about the crackdowns and such. *laughs* Oh well, c'est la vie.
I must admit though.. I'm... hesitant about the movie. I don't want it to be a disappointing mess, nor do I want it to be an overhyped atrocity that cuts on the story (while still showing it) and replacing it with explosions or something stupid. But at the same time, I WANNA SEE IT COME TO LIFE! D:< *chuckles*

One of the reasons it hasn't been made yet is that the directors end up fighting the production companies when the production companies say, "It's nice, but make the dragons talk." Or stuff like that. Then it doesn't get made. But the directors making sure the story elements are preserved for the fans is a cool thing. :) Eventually some production company will understand. Maybe the one that's going on in Canada will pan out eventually. They started in 2006 .. I'm not holding my breath.
Right... my biggest fear is another "eragon" happening. I mean, the books were great for the teen/young adult audience they were geared for, but the movies tried to capture the adult audience a little too much and violated the series, if that makes any sense whatsoever. But... at least there are producers sticking to their guns on this matter. That does make me quite joyed to hear. :3 I... won't hold my breath either.
Perhaps you're right. Honestly, I don't recall how I got on his queue. I think he opened for 12 hrs one day, then took all the submissions and picked his favorites. Maybe my concept struck a chord, but that would be luck, as I dunno what his likes are. Aside from a penchant for drawing girls, but everyone else submitting ideas knew that also. ;)
This is an absolutely stunning piece, a pleasure to look at! And interesting to note.. I too had wondered about the Rooth/Ruth possibility, much as I ponder on Mnementh's name/character possibly having a bit of Pernese inspiration; I loved that series. Sad that I was foolish enough to loan the series to someone and lost about 2/3 of the set that way. I know it doesn't seem it, due to my fursona and such, but my roleplaying was and still is dragon-based. About 14 characters I have at our roleplay forum, I believe? Give or take, some have been quite dormant both for story writing and for RP.
I can't say I feel the same about Eragon as the Dragons of Pern.. choppy writing, I thought. And the movie just had bad material, which movies always make worse, so it was a groaner to watch.

Given that Eragon was written by a 17-year-old, and Dragonriders of Pern was written by a 37-year-old ... I give Eragon a bit of slack on the writing side. It was stilted, but the writer has promise. Still, the movie adaptation was a horrid piece of work, and did it very little justice. :/
