Yeah I started out drawing the exact same dog head. He had an article in a boy's life magazine a number of years back.

*chuckles* I found that in a drawing book for kids that that I got from the library...I figured that the kids books were where I should start since I had NO experiance in drawing at all...

you have to keep your proportions right. Use the pencil oh-so lightly to make the major outlines of the head. Stay light and loose. If it doesn't look right at that stage, then the end will come out wrong. Otherwise you get ears that are the wrong size and shape
