How do you choose the colors for your drawings?

Uhm.. almost always turn my shadows towards blue, that's the only significant rule.

For anything else I just try to go for "what looks good".


Though I guess I do actively choose stuff like "chestnut", rather than just "brown" or "orange";

Because "chestnut" tells me a lot about what sort of shadows and highlights I should be going for,
"brown" doesn't.

Then you have a really good eye for your palette. I'm just unable to "pinpoint" a certain tone for a palette: After I the image starts to have a shape, I notice that the colors don't go together that well.

Still, that detail that you said is a pretty good way to choose the colors, I'll try it the next time I paint something! Thanks a lot!
