Alright, guess it didn't take me all day to finish it.
Unlike the WIP, that is now in scraps, the finished product sports a rear grip to use to fire the weapon, a screen that displays stuff, I swapped the handled on the red axis to allow an unhindered view of the display, however this means that it'd have to be carried on your left side. I also included on the tip of the rails small 'snubbed' cones that have lasers built into them to cut the round as it passes through them allowing for a limited shotgun effect, this can be turned on and off.
Included an 'on' and 'off' version, left and right respectively.
Again, uses a 12.7mm (aka 50 BMG) rounds and sabot to fling the nail/rivet into the rails where the rails speed up the round to railgun level speeds. The 'off' version also displays that the rails can 'close' to prevent any unwanted debris getting onto the magnet, also prevents unwanted snagging of various objects.

Very nice! I might work on making it more collapsible, maybe a bit more ergonomic. Railguns are VERY accurate, and range is very LONG as well. The recoil can be hazardous, so I don't know if holding it like this would be realistic. More likely it would be mounted, or on something heavier than a ground trooper. Tank? Mech? Thingy? That said, AWESOME! You are reaaally good with Google Sketchup. I can't do much with it, Honestly I prefer sculpting Boolean objects.
I have teased the idea of it requiring a harness, similiar in a sense to what the Smartgun from Aliens uses to allow better use of it.
As for something that could carry it, though I hate saying it, power armor might work, though if I went in the direction of a mech i'd likely make this a bit larger.
Heh, i've been using sketchup for around 3 years. I've tried blender but thats WAY too much like autocad and I can't do anything with autocad, i managed however to warp the little sqaure they give you in Blender.
