Actually, it is about 4 inch/100mm tall, theoretically large enough to be a working liquid-fuel motor. But it is just a plastic static model.

Nah. Though I'll be going to Australia in December and might take a look at a specimen they have there and get notes for the NEXT one.

Amazing attention to detail! That's very impressive indeed.

While the unit is good enough for the customer, the exact details are not quite perfect so I'll do it over for a master pattern to make castings. I'll be doing resin copies in 1/35 and possibly 1/24 and 1/8 as well.

I'd love to do some rocket motor stuff, but all too much of it can be dangerous. However, I might do some hybred motors, using acrylic rod and gasious oxygen (check out some of the wow stuff on youtube).
The actual V-2 motor was a beast to build, double-walled construction, the fuel circulated through the walls for cooling before running up to the injector cups to mix with oxygen for combustion. And it all was a steel weld-up, done by slave labor.

Some of the local hipower rocketry types are running the hybrids out here, very impresive. Your model looks fantastic!

Your images lately make me want to return to model building, but being broke and in a small, rented apartment kind of put the "kibosh" on that hobby for me. Amazing work as usual, and I like your use of actual, small nuts to simulate the connectors.

It even looks like it has been Welded out of stainless steel.

I recally you said it was a commission? But why does anyone want a large model of a rocket engine, I wonder? I suppose the only answer is that there's somebody who wants anything...

It will be a full missile with all the guts showing, the motor is only the first step.

Ah... but 4 inches tall, the whole rocket ought to be something like two feet tall? I'll stick to my 8 inch model kit -- as I recall, it had some of the guts.

The thingy behind the motor is just a multi-size hole punch. The motor itself was a fairly simple lathe job, a stack of acrylic discs turned on a Microlux 17 inch lathe.
