This is my attempt at a C-format broadcast recorder, popular in TV studios from about 1976-1996 or so. I drew this as part of a backdrop for the production room in the upcoming Project Future page, and also to (hopefully) help Merlin when we finally get around to Jakob's 1985-era edit suite in Dark Angel. I can imagine I'll probably end up doing that background for that page myself.
Since technology in the DMFA universe is susceptible to magic, it seems very likely to me that magical Creatures will get stuck at a tech level somewhere around 1993 since higher tech uses denser semiconductors which will be more prone to magic-induced bit-flips and similar faults. Flash memory will likely just self-erase.
I may have got the proportions slightly wrong - it's very hard to find a good reference shot of the machine with the cover down. Also I haven't added any labels to it - I might do that in future. Otherwise I'm particularly pleased with how it turned out. Critique is welcome, though.
One of the cooler things about this picture is that I have the headwheel on a separate layer so I can choose between idle and running (shown). The best part if this is that if you turn the upper layer on and off it looks just like the machine is starting and stopping.
Now I'm rambling. Time for bed.
