Considering the noise level (surprisingly low) I think you could have squeaked out 6400 ISO and put that shutter to a more movement friendly 1/50". A flash would have helped a lot, as I'm sure you know. A YN560 flash is REALLY good and REALLY cheap. Have to deal with full manual, but it'll give you a LOT more flexibility in a shot like this (especially if you take it off camera and can diffuse it a bit).

And selective exposure adjustments :3

What method do you use? I know a few and I'm curious which you're using.

using Adobe's RAW editor, you can basically use a brush and edit only parts of the RAW image, which is really handy

Oh ok, that way. I typically start with a luminance mask and hand pant over it any extra areas that need extra work.

I keep all my editing within the RAW editor to keep all possible detail x3
